I really enjoyed how the writers used words that anyone could understand but used that so they had a really profoundly meaning. There were some parts that had the characters hallucinating and I could not tell the real from the things they made up in their heads. I have always been interested in stories of survival. I thought the best thing about this book is that these are the most outrageous tales I have ever heard but I know they are based on true stories and real people. You can’t get better then the truth.
Week 4 Application Angelo Conformity: in 1854 this idea started with the efforts of English colonists to institute American values, norms, and standards perpetuated ever since. It is an extension of English culture and rejects diversity in favor of homogeneity and trends that everyone should conform to values, norms, and standards determined by the Anglo founders of the country and continuing by the white. This perspective towards diversity requires that immigrants stop speaking native languages and only use English as well as abandon their ethnic heritage. It is also referred to as Americanization. The people to benefit from this attitude towards diversity were the Northern European ethnic immigrants.
Freedom is happiness; it is the ability to create ones own happiness. The first amendments of the constitution, The Bill of Rights was written to ensure American rights and that Americans rights will not be denied these rights. In the 1900’s women were denied their basic rights as an American citizen. Margaret Sanger saw women as individuals who were stripped of basic freedom and she petitioned for what she knew was right. Letting a women control her own body is
Others are indifferent to making the world a better place. It is the caring and selfless people who deserve and receive the most admiration, the ones who are here to enjoy life and make others' lives better. These admirable people are also the memorable characters in the best novels. They have their share of challenges and sometimes falter. These fictional characters are dynamic because they are imperfect; they have their faults just like real people.
The film writers, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, supposedly based this film loosely on their personal experiences during their own awkward teenage years. Though I’m not sure how true this actually is, the film is excellently written. There is sensitivity in superbad that other teen movies such as American Pie don’t achieve, this gives the film heart. This is also the main reason that Superbad works so well, it gets away with being immature and crude by using well-written and well-acted parts to create a sense of vulnerability and loveable geeky awkwardness in the three main characters, who constantly attempt to appear cool and confident, particularly around their high school crushes, desperately fabricating stories, with hilarious
Another strong theme is the conflict between good and evil. In most cases, good and evil show the same characteristics and Wicked certainly holds a lot of these characteristics, but at the same time, it shows the audience that evil may come from many unexpected sources. A clear example is the Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba) is not really wicked at all. She has been branded “evil” by her peers because of her looks and she can almost do nothing to escape it. It is a tragic idea, but all is satisfied at the
There is no doubt in my mind that Acheron felt the same way. “I don’t like your hair black.” Artemis stated. The fact that she could not have him look exactly the way she wanted made her very upset at times. When love is involved, it is easy to allow yourself be abused believing it is for the best of that relationship. Acheron loved Artemis so much that he was willing to allow her dark side to inflict scars emotionally and internally, which is extremely saddening.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a very important story for every high schooler to read. Although it does a little more then slightly hint at the racism in that time period, it also teaches readers. It shows racism in such a horrible light, that nobody could revert to such a thing. Our past isn’t always the nicest thing to look upon, but it’s still there. The difference is what we do in the future, and this novel teaches us that everyone is equal and shall be treated as
It just seems to unethical to me even though I can see how they would be useful. This novel made me think about many aspects of human life. Not only did I ponder how we as a people treat each other and people that are different than us, but I pondered our future and how realistic this novel’s plot can be. I am incredibly glad that I decided to read this book again because I missed out on so much the first time I read
Atticus considers her one of the bravest people he knows and he wanted Jem to see that about her. The composer has written it in a way that the responder has automatic dislike for the character, but still knows she’s a good person. In conclusion, the novel To Kill a Mockingbird has many elements of misjudgement, false facades, and bad first impressions and can relate strongly back to the theme of people aren’t what they seem to be. The saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover” is a good example of the ideology of this book, to give people a first impression, then only to have the responders understanding of that person let down because of the learnt development of that character In the
