All I Seek is Love It is normal for children to seek attention from peers and family members around them. Often times, however, with parents being absent due to demands of work, children become lonely and will do anything to garner attention when their parents are finally around. With attention being so valued, children often fail to recognize the malicious behavior of their adult role models. They think these acts are a normal part of spending quality time with a parent. In the story, “Fiesta”, by Junot Diaz, Yunior, the narrator, is often abused by his father Papi. Papi being the man of the house is the main source of income which leads him to believe his wife holds no power in the house hold. Yunior knows his father cheats on his mom and witnesses his mom unable to defend herself or her children. Yunior is one of five siblings and often feels that his father spends no quality time with him. Diaz amplifies the layers of conflict present in Yunior as a son and an immigrant. Moving to a new country as an immigrant is never easy and can take control of one’s emotions. As Yunior and his family moved to the United States his father became obsessed with work and the thought of living a new, luxurious, American lifestyle. As Papi’s job was to provide for the family he forgot his most important role and that was to spend time with his family. As Papi arrived home from work Yunior said, “He didn’t say nothing to nobody, not even to my mom’s. He just pushed past her, held up his hand when she tried to talk to him, and jumped into the shower.” Instead of Papi greeting his family with open arms after a long day of work he shrugged them off showing no sympathy for his wife and children.
