I chose to write about Alice Walker because she is such an inspiration and her writings catch my eye. At the very young age of eight, she lost her right eye due to an accidental shooting by her brother. She became blind in this eye and immediately felt like an outcast. She was stared at and taunted because of her eye and because of that she started writing.
Forgive and Forget It is very important for every human being to forgive him or herself because if you live, you will make mistakes- it is inevitable. But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say “Well, if I’d know better I’d have done better,” that’s all. (Interview) Maya Angelou, author of the novel, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, describes the act of forgiveness in this interview with In Context magazine, issue #43, as well as many other pieces advice. In Angelou’s memoir, she suffered many tragedies, and she tells of them in her book. The story begins during her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas, and as the story progresses, she goes through many experiences.
After reading Jo Goodwin Parker’s essay, I did not feel a pity but instead I felt respect. She was in an unfortunate situation that forced her into a life not easy to live or deal with. But, with three children to care for, plus herself, she continued on with her life no matter what obstacles kept jumping in her path. I had an idea of what poverty was but after reading Parker’s essay, the ideas I had are shattered into a new realization of the true meaning of poverty. Her definition provides vivid images of what poverty truly means.

She was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life, but a court of appeals reversed the conviction and found her insane. In 1999, Yates was treated for postpartum depression and psychosis, illnesses that ran in her family. After the birth of her fifth child and the death of her father, she went into a severe depression and was forcefully admitted to Devereux-Texas Treatment Network.
Discipleship Counseling Paper Abstract Neil Anderson’s book, Discipleship Counseling, is packed with information and insight that was inspired by the Holy Spirit on how to help people break free from personal or spiritual bondage and to also find the peace that only Christ can offer. Information is presented in a way that will enable a counselor to be more comfortable, confident and competent in a role as encourager. Knowledge is also shared so the counselor can be the kind of helper that is needed to help people be set free. A tool presented to the counselor is “The Steps to Freedom in Christ” which shows specific methods to discipleship counseling. Chapter themes, such as, “Defining mental health” and “Counseling the Spiritually Oppressed” go into specifics in certain areas that may need to be addressed in the counseling sessions.

She began over 25 years ago and has 27 books in all. Her writing focused on women and their sexuality and legal status. Because of this her writing was banned from being published in Egypt. She faced many “wars’ in her life. From 1973 to 1978 she researched women and neurosis from that she was inspired and published her novel, Women at Point Zero, which was based on a female, who was on death row, that was in jail for murdering her husband.
