Air Cargo Operations and Security TLMT416 B001 SUM 13 American Military University Air Cargo Operations and Security Airport operations are what airports use to help them provide a safe airport that operates within the latest national and international aviation regulations and requirements. Surveys are conducted that help airports come up with new policies and procedures and/or modifies existing ones. Airport operations also help improve day-to-day operations, manage cost and the delivery of services to customers for which is constantly getting better. What most people don’t know is that airport operations are never ending. There are constant and frequent changes that happen daily within airport operations systems. Things such as new laws/legislation, security protocols, and cargo/passenger screening requirements are just to name a few. As you read further into this report you will gain a more in-depth aspect of airport operations and some of its functions and challenges. Cargo operations fall under the umbrella of airport operations and they are the processes of loading, shipping, and offloading cargo using all associated equipment and modes of travel. Another thing that is constantly the overlooked is the fact that the loading and offloading passengers also falls in within cargo operations. As passengers flown through security checkpoints, onward to their departure gates and down to their baggage claims at their destinations this is all consider cargo operations. When dealing with the weight and space restraints that come along with the restrictions of aircraft there is an extremely serious and potentially deadly balancing act between passengers, passenger baggage, and freight cargo. One slight miscalculation or misplacement of a passenger or any type of cargo can cause the aircraft to crash for example the cargo plane that crashed in Afghanistan
