Wesley Carothers Politics/Problems Niedringhaus Per. 7 Affirmative Action Essay Back in the 1970’s universities around America started to adopt programs that were intended to resolve social and racial discrimination in the admissions process. Making it easier for minorities to obtain acceptance into such schools. In 1978 a case, Regents of the University of California v. Bakke, was decided on by the Supreme Court. This case regarded Allan Bakke, a caucasian 35 year old man (at the time) who had tried to enrol into the UC Davis medical program and had been rejected twice. The school had reserved 16 spaces for every 100 students for minorities in the medical classes. Having higher test scores and GPAs than the minorities, Bakke preached…show more content…
