The word affirmation comes from the Latin word "affirmare” originally meaning "to make steady, strengthen." Affirmations are positive statement or declaration you say to yourself to change negative belief about yourself, to transform your habits, behaviour, attitude and reactions, and to reshape your external life. Affirmations are the right message of encouragement that can help you to overcome feelings of anxiety and discouragement. Proverbs 16:24 explains that "pleasant words" can cause people to feel good physically - not just psychologically and spiritually - illustrating the relationship between the mind and the body. If you discover that negative words and thoughts are running through your mind, you have to change them with your words and your thoughts to programme your mind to a positive direction. Affirmations are like positive devices for achieving success and for improving life. Imagine you are with your friends in a swimming pool, something you have never done before, and since you want to win their respect, you want to show them that you can swim too. You tried swimming, and at the same time keep repeating in your mind, "I can do it.” You believe that you can. In a different situation, you might find yourself repeating, "I cannot do it" and therefore, lose ambition and faith. If you consistently say "I cannot" the energy of your words will stop God's ability against you. But if you say "I can!" God will give you the abilities to do just that.
