Advantages of E-commerce Nzingha Reel November 26, 2012 MKT/552 Karen Butler Abstract Over the past years, the use of the Internet has grown drastically. The largest increase has been in the market of e-commerce. The emergence of the internet created a platform for businesses to expand and cross borders that they may not have crossed. According to Rayport & Jaworski (2004), e-commerce is a “technology-mediated exchanges between parties (individuals or organizations) as well as the electronically intra- or interorganizational activities that facilitate such exchanges” (p. 4). The following paper will discuss the advantages of e-commerce and what it has done for businesses with web development and online versus brick and mortar business models. Advantages of E-commerce Advantages Neither time nor distance is an issue with an e-commerce business. The company is open for business anytime the customer needs it to be open and has increased product awareness and sale awareness. E-commerce has minimized cost, improved customer service, entrance into a new market, newly sales channels, and increased global reach. The Internet also creates an atmosphere for low error and increased productivity. Web Development Placement The placement of items on the company’s website is pivotal to the success of the business and navigation through the page. The development team must discuss where things need to be placed on the website and who needs to see them. The team should discuss every detail so that all bases are covered and the page is effective marketing. They also need to discuss their ultimate goals for developing the webpage and how they can get the most profitability. It is up to the developers to make sure the website is clear to the consumers and they feel comfortable making purchases. E-commerce businesses must have the placement of their links
