2/18/13 Marketing Social Media I would describe social media as exactly as it sounds, media that uses and requires social interaction. Its also a way for businesses to reach their customers other than tv and billboard ads. I use social media everyday including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and more. It allows me to connect with people I do not talk to everyday. They are also fun and a good way to waste time.
The nineties gave way to a different perception and that people believed it was ok and the norm of the day to be single to have close friends. The latest era has opened our mind to the new possibilities, you can tweet your inner most thoughts and feelings, post your wants and desires and tell everyone on your friend list how your daily life is going. All of the networking sites have made it easier to tells everyone how you are feeling. They have also allowed us to keep in touch or reconnect with long distance family and friends. Rarely does someone pick up the phone and call their friend to vent about a bad day.
On facebook and instagram you can add pictures and information with other people across the globe. With twitter you can “tweet” also known as messaging to get information out on the web. A good way an individual can use social media to help strengthen their community is by setting up a Facebook account to delivery important information. For example my community has a Facebook page I follow and they are constantly updating information about my community’s environment. Every Thursday at 6pm they have tea time at our local city hall so we can get to know our neighbors better.
