Introductory Research Paper into Academic Procrastination “Why do today when you can put off till tomorrow” is a phrase used when talking about procrastination. In my case the phrase is must used when dealing with my school work, studying for quizzes, exams or writing papers. Specifically Academic Procrastination or “Student Syndrome” is described as the phenomenon where a student will only begin to fully apply themselves to a task immediately before a deadline. As it’s described I leave studying or working on papers to the last minute. The studying or paper writing is still completed by the deadline but I start the task as late as possible but just soon enough to meet the deadline. I’ve learned through experience how long or how much effort is needed to complete the assignment. So I now in my mid-thirties I can plan rather accurately to leave an assignment to the last minute, but with just enough time to finish. My procrastination usually occurs when the assignment takes longer than an hour, the deadline is not in the immediately future, and there is no reason to complete the assignment early. If the assignment will take less than an hour and due within the week I usually knock out the assignment as soon as possible so it’s out of the way and more importantly I don’t forget the assignment. I tend to forget minor tasks or assignments. The larger the last the less likely I am to forget to complete the work. It’s the long term assignments that get left to sit until right before the deadline. This includes large papers or papers needing significant research and studying for mid-term or final exams. Every since I could remember I have been an academic procrastinator. The serious academic procrastination started in high school and turned into full blow Student Syndrome when I first attended college in the mid 90’s. I was just out of high school, 18 years old and
