All About Being a Baker The career choices that were recommended for me were baker, jeweler, chef, winemaker, and cook. I agreed with most of my results because they sounded interesting to me. The one I would probably enjoy doing the most would be being a baker. I chose to do my paper on a career as a baker because I love baking things. It is a lot of fun and you get to be creative. The typical work hours per week can be forty hours or part time. Yes, the hours seem like they would suit me because they are flexible. The work hours per day can be eight, or between twelve and fourteen. The work hours seem like they would work for me; the flexible part sounds great. The number of baking jobs In the United States is between 25,000 and 149,000, which is medium. In my opinion, this sounds high because I do not see that many bakeries, except for grocery store ones. The change in hiring is fair; the number of workers hired in this field increases by five percent every year. (“Baker”) This trend affects my interest because that could increase my chance of being hired. The average salary ranges from 22,000 to 32,000 dollars per year. (“Baker”) That is about the salary I would have expected. I thought it would not be that much because you do not need a college degree. In most cases, that will make your salary higher. The education that is required is a high school diploma or less. It is recommended, though, that you have a two-year degree. The classes that you should take in high school for this career are cooking, nutrition, retail operations, applied mathematics, and restaurant or business management. It is also recommended that you have work experience in a restaurant or with a business. Bakers should be able to: 1. Keep their work area clean, 2. be able to smell and taste things well, 3. Be a great team member, 4. Read and follow recipes.
