The reflection story I choose is called Why I Hunt: A Predators Meditation by Rick Bass. The short story tells of Bass’s love of hunting for both elk and deer. However, the significance of the story goes far beyond merely killing an animal for its meat, as it tells mostly of the emotional struggle he feels as a hunter. Bass acknowledges the fact that he is a predator but wonders if his insatiable need for meat will somehow affect him in a later life. He questions whether or not he will have to pay for all of the innocent animals’ deaths that he has caused.
Bradbury uses the symbol of fire to describe much of what is happening to the protagonist. Throughout the novel, he depicts himself as someone who is “dead”. This is portrayed in the quote Granger states to Montag: “Welcome back from the dead (150).” This quote illuminates the dynamic characters past life. A man that consumes himself with ignorance, and a person who is overwhelmed by his wife, and the constant battle to save books. Montag is an humble character that has to deal with people with suicidal problems, and self-righteous people preventing others from receiving the knowledge from books.
In session three, the professor concluded that four assignments were crucial to assessing student learning: in-class participation, an individual midterm, group presentation, and an individual reflection assignment. The final session was related to the breakdown of points distributed to students. The Socratic approach, which consists of session-based questions followed by answers, was adopted into the
When Kurt Vonnegut wrote Slaughterhouse Five, every scene had an underlying message that he was trying to convey to his audience. Since his book pertains to World War II, there was sure to be copious scenes of violence and quite a bit of gore. However, these violent scenes are meant to be provoking and cause a reaction in the reader. Vonnegut uses Billy's experiences in the WWII to show the horrible truth about war: it is senseless, with one bloody, macabre incident after another. Also, Vonnegut wants the reader to learn to accept things and to understand that change is inevitable.
We can see it in his conversation with Whitney on board of the yacht He, who is cruel at beginning, thinks that the world is made up with two classes: “the Hunter and the Huntees”. Furthermore, Rainsford also is an eager hunter that thinks people is superior to the animals. Therefore, Rainsford said: “Don’t talks rot, Whitney. You're a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels.” Rainsford doesn’t view hunting animals as murderer; however, he says that Zaroff is a murderer because he is hunting human being.
That shows that he had some time to himself and for his thoughts. All the photos he had clicked of the war, were set out in ordered rows, making him feel nostalgic and remember all the places he had been to and how they all had been torn apart by war. It shows that he was extremely disturbed. The poet uses a metaphor ‘spools of suffering’ which shows the theme of death. It also is a effectual comparison as it shows that it’s not the spools that are suffering, but it’s the photos arranged on the spools.

O'Brien's extract conveys to the readers the contradictory feelings that war evokes in a person. War can be seen in different perspectives and can be felt with many different emotions. The author describes war as astonishing; an adjective rarely used in the general opinion. But O'Brien has seen and felt first hand, and writes that war makes you grow up and learn about yourself as a person. You learn to value life in those desperate moments where death comes close.
Click the shutter, wind the film and when it got to the end we took it to the local drug store. A few days later we had our prints and negatives in hand and if we wanted an enlargement we just ordered them. Then came digital and the questions turned to megapixels, compact flash cards, pixels, resolution, scanners, ink jet printers, etc.. I’ll try to explain some of the more confusing issues. SCANNING PICTURES In order to digitize our old paper prints they need to be scanned into your computer. Whether you intend to email, post them on the internet or make prints will change the way you set your scanner.
The fireman realizes he has developed a passion for books, and begins to take a few before they are set on fire. Unfortunately, the fireman's actions don't go unnoticed and he finds himself in serious trouble. Fahrenheit 451 is a science fiction book that still reflects to our current world. Bradbury does a nice job predicting what the world would be like in the future; the future for his time period and for ours as well. The society Bradbury describes is, in many ways, like the one we are living in now.
