Character Analysis Essay In the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson I chose Melinda for my selected character. I chose her because she is the main character and she is in the whole book. I think I relate to Melinda in different ways. One of the reasons I think I am similar to Melinda is cause she doesn’t like her school at all like me. She is also a loner with no friends and I myself don’t have a large amount of friends.
She was not even a sentenced prisoner yet when this happened. At the same time, her husband died. She could no longer afford a lawyer and hence, stayed in the pre-trial detention for six years with no contact with her other seven children (“Pretrial Detention and Torture” 34). The Day They Set Out Response Brandon Moreira In the short story “The Day They Set Out” by Beverly Harris, the protagonist, Jean is stuck in a life in which she does the same predictable routine. This makes her feel empty inside, and that she needs to try something new. The causes for her emptiness and difficulties are that, because of her lack of social skills, she has almost no friends. Proving to us that there was going to be a connection between the two characters throughout the whole book. On the other hand, people such as George and Candy had no affection or tenderness towards Curley's Wife even after she has been killed. Candy carries on calling her a 'tart' even when she is lying on the floor with a broken neck.

It is evident that Allison does this because she does attention-seeking actions such as pouring the all the contents from her purse, squealing and banging her head against the table. This is to seek affection and recognition from others to build meaningful, and useful relationships so that she does not feel helpless or
