Nurse Ratched manipulates the patients into thinking that the group therapy and such is what is best for them, however she uses techniques such as making the patients belittle each other to “make them better”. “It was better than she dreamed. They were all shouting out to out do one another going further and further no way of stopping, telling things that wouldn't ever let them look one another in the eyes again. The Nurse nodding at each confession and saying Yes, yes, yes”(p.51). By the nurse saying yes, and by her encouraging the patients to out do each other it is showing that she is gaining enjoyment from their pain even though she is telling them that it is for the betterment of them.
By using strong word choices, Mairs comes to terms with the words used to describe “cripple,” by displaying her strength and admittance to her existence as a cripple. She believes in the use of words describing cripple, and wants people to use the word precisely to label her disability. Moreover, the author uses figurative language to explicate appropriate words used to label her disability. The inaccurate use of words depicting her disability is
By having this ability to recognize oppression helps to reject the destructive influence of messages caused by oppression. There are many ways in which we can teach children how to recognize derogatory depictions of other people as stereotypes and how to respond to them. Tatum had a good example of how to do this with her son and the book series they were reading together. Another example she used is when she explained the racism that was hidden in the ever popular
Based on what you have learned in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken’s forgiveness. Jan attempt to get Ken to forgive her is full of defensiveness and self interest. Jan could more effectively seek and obtain Ken’s forgiveness by acknowledging ken’s point of view. Jan would be more effective in seeking ken’s forgiveness if she did not seem to be so defensive, and she tried to see the situation from his perspective. Jan also needs to demonstrate that she has a desire to restore the well-being of their friendship.
The policy sets the boundaries of behavior expected from the children and also the behavior expected from staff. It sets out how we should reward the children and sanction them e.g. my nursery rewards potty training with stickers and other good behavior with verbal praise, if a child is behaving inappropriately then we explain to them firmly that the behavior is not acceptable and we suggest the correct behavior that they should be displaying and if the behavior carries on then we put them in thinking time or take them away from an activity. We encourage the children to resolve conflicts by sharing or negotiating with each other. It also has the anti-bullying policy in it and how we should handle situations and explains what inappropriate behavior is.
I felt that the assessment was correcting in saying that I was an INTJ personality type based on the links that were provided after answering the yes and no questions. In one of the articles, Marina Margaret Heiss made the statement, “INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don't know”. (2009) This statement alone really hit home with me. I began to think about how when I am dealing with the young students of the youth group I am willing to help only when I know how to deal with the problem, and when I don’t I turn them to someone else who is more likely to understand and know how to address the issue. In another article, written by Dr. David Keirsey he refers to people with the INTJ personality type “Masterminds”.
Outline and evaluate one psychological explanation of media influences on pro-social behaviour One psychological explanation of media influences on pro-social behaviour is parental mediation. Singer suggested that parents can enhance children’s understanding by watching pro-social programmes with their children and discussing the moral content and reinforcing the pro-social message. By adults explaining the message to their children it enables them to understand much easier and they can take it on board. Morals in pro-social programmes tend to be harder to understand than anti-social behaviour. Age is an important factor for understanding pro-social behaviour.
Allison Reynolds: The best type of assessment for Allison is an objective test. Specifically, the MMPI-2 Inventory. It is evident that Allison tends to be considered ‘odd’ to others as she carries out odd actions such as failing to engage in the others’ conversation (in the beginning), and scratching her head wildly so that her dandruff would fall on paper. The MMPI test would help diagnose psychological disorders that Allison may have in relation to her peculiar behavior. Significantly, since objective tests are self-reported, and include written responses, true & false questions, and multiple-choice questions, this will help Allison to describe herself.
I would like to have conducted a more in depth discussion with these girls about the benefits of breast feeding versus bottle feeding and educate them on the pros and cons and then do a study to see how many would breast or bottle feed. In conclusion, the article did in fact pull down some statistics on the correlates of adolescent feeding practices and the information could be used to address the concerns caused by breast feeding versus bottle feeding. However by using only a specific group of disadvantaged women the sample and results are skewed based on not using an overall
For example, participants were primed before the study began to to use to “f” fricative. This was achieved by the experimenters priming participants by only using words which made sense to have an “f” fricative, for example, “sco__” which would become “scoff”. This meant that when participants began listening to words with ambiguous fricatives, they immediately returned the “f” fricative because they had be lexically guided towards that fricative. The are limitations regarding using eye tracking technology for the study. For example, participants began to search for the “f” fricative before the words had appeared on the screen, suggesting that they may have began to understand what the research aim of the study was and therefore showing demand characteristics.
