Kim Zaring Kenneth Smith English 1101 (crn 80128) Research Paper 13 November 2010 Devastation It was a normal morning on September 11, 2001, when the United States had a horrific attack that took place on our soil for just the third time in our history. There were four planes that had been hijacked, and these planes where being operated by terrorists. Two of the planes were flown directly into the two towers of the World Trade Centers that was located in New York City. The first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center around 8:46 A.M. (911 timeline). The second plane hit the South tower of the World Trade Center around 9:02 A.M. (911 timeline).
The United States was under a terrorist attack. On that Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. Members of Al-Qaeda planned attacks upon the United States in New York City and the Washington, D.C. areas. The hijackers intentionally flew two of those planes, which were the American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center that was located in New York City. Both towers collapsed within two hours and debris from the two towers
9/11 affected the health, financial markets and economy of the citizens of the United States. 9/11 took place on September 11, 2001. Three airplanes were hijacked by terrorist and used as weapons. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center in New York City and 2,752 people died (September 11 Attacks). The other plane crashed into the Pentagon and killed 189 people.
At the Seattle-Tacoma Airport, in Tacoma, Washington, he released thirty-six passengers and two crew members once his demands were met (Pasternak). After taking off again Cooper ordered the plane to fly at a low altitude towards Mexico. At 8:13pm pressure gauges recorded his jump over the Lewis River from 10,000ft into a thunderstorm with over a hundred mile per hour winds and negative temperatures wearing only a thin suit, wrap-around sunglasses, and a rain coat (Brad Meltzer's Decoded). Many people believe that this was a suicidal jump and that Cooper died that night (Mysterious Disappearances in U.S. History). A reporting error in this high interest case mixed up his name forever immortalizing him as D.B.
This time, 40,000 were killed instantly, and another 40,000 due to injuries and radiation. Common descriptions of the bombing include a "mushroom cloud", an extremely bright flash of light that caused blindness, severe burns (skin hanging from people, eyes burnt, people turned into ash etc. ), and the entire area being literally flattened. It was said that the heat produced was equivalent to the sun, and that the force of one atomic bomb was equivalent to 67 million sticks of dynamite! After the war, atomic bombs have never been used again.
Liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen then mixed and ignited, causing the explosion that destroyed the Challenger" (Palmer, Dunford, & Akin, 2009, p. 375). All the astronauts aboard the Challenger perished. Seventeen years later, on February 1, 2003, the Columbia disintegrated over Texas and Louisiana during re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere. During lift-off, insulating foam fell from the fuel tank onto the wing, which caused a breach in the fragile tiles that were to protect the shuttle from the heat of reentry. Days later, when the shuttle attempted reentry, the breach allowed heat into the wing, which caused destruction of the craft.
September 11, 2001, describes a series of attacks towards the United States in New York City and Washington, D.C. Hijackers intentionally crashed two planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centers in New York City. Both of the towers collapsed within two hours of the crashes, killing nearly 3,000 people. Hijackers also crashed a plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the last plane into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The fourth planes target was intended to hit Washington, D.C. but passengers of the planes attempted to take control before it could reach D.C. There are many effects that changed from the terrorist attack on September 11th security, charity, post-traumatic stress and military.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, I woke up with great confusion not knowing what all the commotion was about at home in my living room. As I got to school, my teachers explained to me that our country was under attack by terrorists. I learned that nineteen al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four jet airliners and crashed two of them into the Twin Towers in New York City, killing everyone onboard as well as others that were working in the buildings. At around 8:46 AM EST, American Arlines Flight 11 that was hijacked by the terrorists crashed into the north tower taking out the all the floors in between the 93rd and 99th floors. Shortly after at 9:03, United Arlines Flight 175 crashed into the south tower destroying everything between the 77th
On September 11, 2001 the United States was turned upside down. Around nine o’clock that Tuesday morning an American Airline’s plane crashed into the North Tower stunning people all over the world. While news coverage was unveiling the incident, moments later another plane operated by United Airlines crashed into the South Tower. As the day progressed, not only did both of the towers collapse, killing hundreds of people, two other planes went down as well, one
September 11th 2001 Through My Eyes On September 11th, 2001 New York City witnessed one of the worst terrorist attacks in history, if not the worst. Ten Al Qaeda members hijacked two airplanes in mid-air and each was flown into one of the World Trade Center buildings eventually causing the 110-story buildings to crumble down killing 2606 people. Ten years later on September 11th, 2011 the 9/11 memorial was opened to the public. I had the opportunity to visit this memorial with my class and the experience was mind-boggling. After all that happened on 9/11 and all the crazy people out in the world I was really surprised about the fact that there was a lot of security to get in to the memorial but not nearly as much as I would have
