Some signs to look for in a child’s behaviour is if the child is overly shy, or fearful, or maybe afraid of doing something wrong. Another warning would be a child showing wrong age behaviour, which means an older child showing signs of behaviour that are usually found in younger children. Physical abuse is deliberate use of physical force or violence to hurt or injure a child. It may include slapping, punching, pulling hair, hitting etc. some of the signs and symptoms of physical abuse are bruises in places that would not be related with a child falling over accidentally, these may happen frequently.
There are many different types of physical abuse. It can be anything from striking or punching, to sleep deprivation, exposure to the cold or withholding of food or mediation. Possible indicators of physical abuse can be multiple bruising, fracture, burns, bed sores, depression, and the list goes on. When that force is immediate, of short duration, or infrequent, it is called sexual assault.

However this does not mean that we can’t keep an eye on them. In my setting if a child has a mark on their body whether it being suspicious or not we ask the parent what they did- most parents tell you before you ask and the majority of the time you are like yes okay that fine sometimes you may thing that they are not telling you the truth. If we have a child having repeat marks on their body or suspicious marks then we body map this and store it.

Therefore In this essay I intend to put across both side of the arguments and then conclude with my own personnel opinion. Some people are against smacking children because the research evidence shown is overwhelming; smacking children is an ineffective way to manage children's behavior and damages their development. We have laws that protect adults from being assaulted by other adults however many people still believe that smacking children is a legal form of discipline. Is this therefore not ironic? As an adult can be protected by violence but a child does not have the same right.
