21st Century Learning Change of education is essential, if human society is to survive and thrive in the 21st Century. The 21st century learning skills are often referred to as the 4 C’s: critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating, and collaborating. These skills help students learn, so that they experience success in school and beyond. The students use educational technologies to apply knowledge to new situations, analyse information, collaborate, solve problems, and make decisions.(Fable Vision). Students are required to use emerging technology to expand and broaden their learning opportunities. These skills are critical, if our future generations are to experience success in the 21st Century. Critical thinking is focused, careful analysis of something to better understand it. Critical thinkers need to have the ability to classify and identify groups, compare and contrast. They are required to be able to explain concepts, evaluate and most importantly be able to problem solve. Creative thinking is expansive, open-ended invention, open to new approaches and the discovery of possibilities. Students are able to brainstorm, question, imagine, and be entertaining and creative. Communicating is the process of sharing thoughts, questioning ideas and sharing solutions. To be an effective communicator, students are required to be active listeners, be able to decode written words, be able to use spoken words to convey ideas, as well as use written word to share, record information. Collaborating is individuals working together to achieve a common goal. Collaboration is more important than ever, in this age of social media and crowd sourcing. Skills required to collaborate effectively are to be able to assign tasks, allocate resources, set goals, manage time, maintain schedules, resolve conflict – compromise, cooperate, they need to be able to make
