Actively encourage and support learners in becoming independent. Will lead learning “guided” groups, modelling concepts and language that the adult leading the learning has used. Will alter an activity or change the apparatus if an activity does not meet the learners needs to enable them to achieve or exceed the expected outcome. Are acutely aware of learners capabilities/prior learning/understanding and plan very effectively to build on these. The areas that I have assessed as “good” and therefore need improving are: Enable learners to access resources appropriately – I feel that I need to make more time to be able to show the children how they can get the best from the resources that they have available to them.
The chief characteristic of a thinking curriculum is the dual agenda of content and process for all students. Characteristics that derive from this agenda include in-depth learning; involving students in real-world, relevant tasks; engaging students in holistic tasks from kindergarten through high school; and utilizing students' prior knowledge. Effective communication and collaboration are essential to becoming a successful learner. It is primarily through dialogue and examining different perspectives that students become knowledgeable, strategic, self-determined, and empathetic. Moreover, involving students in real-world tasks and linking new information to prior knowledge requires effective communication and collaboration among teachers, students, and others.
Test-taking, career-oriented, learning behavior, decision-making, and critical thinking are all areas in which I have strengths. I was able to apply this to my theory through the way in which class is conducted, and the students are assessed. DI and inclusion push for children to embrace their learning behavior and styles while helping them develop deeper thinking processes. Creating success and higher levels of thinking allow children to become goal orientated which will help them when it is time to choose career paths of their own. In my theory, an effective teacher must also be willing to change and adapt lesson plans based on the needs of the students.
It is through these theories that we will gain more insight into the issues associated with school system-wide leadership (Knapp, et al, 2008, p. 35). This study will use these learning theories to illuminate the reasoning for educational reform, and inform the research obtained from the focus groups and interviews. Learning is a progression by which we gain knowledge, skills and an understanding of abstract concepts. You start learning from birth and the learning process continues through formal schooling and even right through to adulthood. It is important a individual to understand their learning strengths and challenges, as it can support a person to be more successful. For example if a individual recognizes their challenges this could help a person to understand why certain things are difficult. So in this case a person might work very hard to develop strategies to be successful in spite of these challenges.
Effective communication is very important for variety of reasons: Making relationships – Effective communication helps to create new relationships not only with a child, but with parents, careers and colleagues too. To make new relationships effectively you need to use verbal and non – verbal communication, and you need to be friendly, also smiling a lot. Developing relationships - it is important not only to make new relationships, it is also very important to develop and maintain it. To do that professionals need to maintain friendly and supportive approach, and be interested in what other people are doing or feeling. Expressing thoughts and ideas – in order to encourage children and young adults to talk about what they learned and what they think, or encourage them to express themselves imaginatively, communication skills are also needed.
The new leadership skills must encompass, amongst other things: · Empowering the middle level managers and other staff members of the organization. This will result in flatter organizations; · Encouraging the learning process and promote the transfer of knowledge, by ensuring proper training and feedback. Leaders must become constant learners (Ref: Chapter 4 – The Changing Context of Leadership, by James G. Clawson); · Promoting a bottom-to-top communication, while enhancing the top-to-bottom one; · Ensuring that new leaders are trained and given new opportunities within the organization.
