But this man, this human, made it out of the Holocaust and fought for humanity. We as regular people, with ample resources, should look at this man’s journey with reverence and use his life as an example for future generations. The effect of Night on me was so profound, that I feel it is necessary for me to pursue my dreams to the fullest and give to others in need. The message Elie Wiesel sends through his interviews is a message of compassion towards others and for humans to empathize with each other so another Holocaust does not occur. Elie Wiesel came out of the dark pit that is the Holocaust and brought humankind a story of hope, perseverance, and strength.
Sadly in the end, he died right beside half of his Regiment, but I’m sure that he also died with pride and dignity. The movie “Glory” taught me that to be a leader, you will have to endure some struggles and make sacrifices; it’s not about you, it’s about your followers and putting them ahead of you. Sometimes this may also involve risks and you may also have to do things that are out of your character. Colonel Shaw had to fight to take care of his Regiment, but he didn’t give up; he stood strong. It was nice to see that with honestly comes respect and with respect comes loyalty.

This final life or death ordeal shows that the hero has maintained and can apply all that he has brought back to the ordinary world. This ordeal and resurrection can represent a “cleansing” or purification that must occur now that the hero has emerged from the land of the dead. The hero is reborn or transformed with the attributes of the ordinary self in addition to the lessons and insight of the characters he has met along the way. The resurrection may be a physical ordeal, or final showdown between the hero and the shadow. This battle is for much more than the hero’s life.
In Act 4 Miller uses Proctor to show us how keeping the family name in good stature is important to him. Proctor states “How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, leave me my name” (133). Proctor knows that if he were to disgrace his name that his children would also likely suffer from his actions. The author also illustrates this when Proctor says “I have three children, how may I teach them to walk like men in the world, and I sold my friends” (132).
When Dax said he was happy to be alive it gave Dr. Larson reassurance for his actions years before. He also claimed that Dax had many opportunities to take his own life after the treatment, which he failed to do so. I see this as the most prolific positive for keeping Dax alive. He was able to continue seeing his family and enjoy being alive given his quality of life. It is difficult to put yourself into the situation Dax was dealing with, the only way to understand would require one of us experiencing the pain he was going through.
Calvin tried to remain a constant source of support for Conrad. Despite his own feelings of grief and sadness, Calvin remains focused on his son. The end of the movie shows the father and son pair exchanging the sentiment “I love you.” These three little words are just what each needed to hear. The loss of a child is a tragedy for all those involved. Somebody loses a child, a sibling, a friend.
Can Having Spiritual Freedom Deepen our Inner Selves? Can having spiritual freedom deepen our inner selves, even in difficult external circumstances? While some may argue that is next to impossible, I for one believe that is very much possible and achievable. Viktor Frankl is living proof that even after all he had to go through inside those concentration camps, all the physical and mental abuse, he was still able to find spiritual freedom. When Frankl first entered the camp he was torn away from his wife, stripped of all his possessions and anything that made him an individual.
