The 1940’s was a decade spearheaded by surprise attacks, advancements and newer warfare strategies, and political sidings, such as the Axis and the Allies. When the surprise attacks came to Pearl Harbor on a perfect December day, we had that memory indefinitely engraved into our national memory. From the invention of the radar, to the atomic bomb, warfare was taken to the next level as a result of World War II. One of the leaders of the Axis, Adolf Hitler, was one of the most powerful men on the face of the earth, and was the leader of Nazi Germany from 1933 until his suicide in 1945. “The three principal partners in the Axis alliance were Germany, Italy, and Japan. These three countries recognized German hegemony over most of continental Europe; Italian hegemony over the Mediterranean Sea; and Japanese hegemony over East Asia and the Pacific” (ushmm.org). “Axis partners had two common interests: Territorial expansion and foundation of empires based on military conquest and the overthrow of the post-World War I international order; and the destruction or neutralization of Soviet Communism” (ushmm.org). “The Allied Powers, headlined by Great Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union, defeated the Axis in World War II” (ushmm.org). After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States wanted in on the war. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s decision turned out to be just fine, as the Allies defeated the Axis once and for all in September 2, 1945, when the Japanese had to fight alone. The U.S. had justice done. The 1940’s was a decade where warfare and politics dominated the scene. The formation of the Allies and Axis was a major and crucial development in the second edition of World War, and the Allied powers ultimately prevailed as the stronger unit. With another World War emerging, technology had to be enhanced, and these are still some inventions that we use today.
