Child abuse is a complex phenomenon with multiple causes. Understanding the causes of abuse is crucial to addressing the problem of child abuse. Parents who physically abuse their spouses are more likely than others to physically abuse their children (Garbarino, & Garbarino, 1994). Many physically abusive parents and caregivers insist that their actions are simply forms of discipline—ways to make children learn to behave. But there is a big difference between using physical punishment to discipline and physical abuse.
Therefore, according to the latest studies of some organizations such as children protection, spanking can create physiological problems such as depression in a child. It makes parents believe that spanking children can harm their children. Spanking children is not a good way to discipline them because children can get some mental problems. For example, children who are usually spanked by their parents believe that they hate them, so children get depression because of spanking. Children can also get mental problems because of spanking such as killing themselves.
The Impact of Domestic Violence on Preschoolers Amy Zaroor Psychology 331 Dr. Watkins 7 December, 2009 Abstract Witnessing domestic violence has a negative effect on the development of preschool children. There is a discrepancy between exposed and non-exposed children in cognitive ability as well as externalizing and internalizing behavior problems. When a child witnesses this violence, their trust is broken and they often show symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. There is a chance for children to show resilience in the face of witnessing this violence. Positive parenting, re-establishing trust, and being attuned to children’s emotions can play a big role in diminishing the harmful effects of this trauma.
Spanking is however still widely used as a means to punish kids across the world. Some have opposed it as a great idea to punish kids owing to it being able to affect their emotions as well as psychology. After being beaten so much the child will only behave when subjected to pain. This only result in more pain as a way to deal with those kids found to have hardened leading to abuse. Most of those found to result to spanking may be frustrated, and only trying to express their emotions.
Spanking and Aggression in Young Children Can spanking really lead to aggressive behavior in young children? In my opinion, it can and usually does. Have you ever gotten a spanking from a parent or adult, but then were told “hitting and slapping are not okay,” by that same adult? You probably felt confused or angry and asked them, “why is it ok for you to slap me, but it’s not okay for me to slap you?” This is one of a few reasons why I do not believe spanking is an effective form of punishment and can lead to aggressive behavior in children. It can cause confusion, which can then lead to stress, which can then result in aggressive behavior from the child.
If corporal punishment is so bad why did they allow it to continue for so many years? Are children that were punished affected from the punishment and now suffer untold damage as adults. We will answer these questions in this paper. Corporal punishment to some extent is needed to discipline a child in my opinion. Not so much so that they are physically or mentally hurt but a small swat on the rump to get their attention is necessary at times.
Bullying can now lead to criminal cases and lawsuits. By the schools letting bullying continue it teaches students that it's ok. This creates a fearful environment instead of a learning one. Students feel "let me bully so I don't get bullied". Bullying victims can have a lot of stress added on and it can lead to retaliation such as school shootings as well as suicide.
Bullying is a problem that may affect many children. Bullying may make a child feel afraid, shame, or nervous. The idea of being bullied may make a person feel sick. When having a bully in your school it may make the person scared to go to the bathroom, cafeteria, or go outside. Sometimes when you worry about a bully it can affect a child ability to do school work.
Children need to be taught subtlety, not brutality. Hitting a child is never reasonable, no matter how much trouble they have caused. Reasons being, it might bring forth feelings of anger towards parents who struck them, it could make the child violent towards others, and it can also create a rebellious person.
Research shows that bullying is a very controversial subject that can be seen as a crime to some but not to others depending on the nature and severity of the bullying. It is a widespread problem that unfortunately most children have to go through at some point in their lives. Bullying is a conscious, wilful, deliberate, hostile and repeated behaviour by one or more people which is intended to harm others. What do people in today’s society really think of bullying? What can they do to help these victims?
