Youth's Best Friend & Worst Enemy

"Oh, come on, just one drink or hit won't hurt you. It's fun," is something almost every teen has heard at least once in their lives. Some have objected to this but others have been reeled in by this request which consequently has led to a serious problem among many people. Drug abuse among the youth is a severe problem in most countries. It results in different consequences at the social, economic, legal and health level. Drug abuse slowly kills the social life of a teen, tearing apart his family, friendships and relationships with other people. Without help, the teen can wind up alone, with the drug being his only "friend." A lot of young people are suffering from health issues because of drug and alcohol abuse. Young people are experiencing weight gain, hangovers, high blood pressure, a depressed immune system, cancer, liver disease, alcohol poisoning and heart respiratory failure because of alcohol. Young people are becoming alcoholics and are unable to control their drinking; how much, when, and if. Alcoholism puts their lives at great risk for other health problems, and it can shorten their life by more than 10 years. Alcohol kills 6 ½ times more teenagers than all other illicit drugs combined. Teens that drink are 50 times more likely to use cocaine than teens who never consume alcohol. Alcohol not only kills people but is also the thing that introduces them to other drugs. Drug and alcohol abuse effect the lives of young people severely because if without help it can result in a miserable life and even death. Young people are becoming more isolated than ever before because of drugs and alcohol. It may not sound too bad but isolation can bring devastating things such as suicide and physiological problems.
