The Youth Hostel Association The youth hostel organisation is created to help young people to get a room to stay in without the prices of a five star hotel. This organisation is a none profit organisation they don’t take in a profit because they are classed as a charity. The youth hostel association helps foreigners that want to visit England and can’t afford a hotel like premier inn, holiday inn and not to mention Britannia hotel. So they check into a youth hostel, the prices are cheap and they offer lunch and tours of the city and much more. Extension work They also do some amazing actives; this is something I copied from their websites. (The words or text have not been changed). Amazing activity breaks Why not ride the waves on a surfing holiday in Cornwall, or experience the thrill of mountain biking on Dartmoor? For a more laid back experience spend a day on the sparkling water with a Sailing break in the Lake District, or canter through the beautiful green valleys of Wales on horseback. Ownership The youth hostel is a charity, this means they don’t take in any profit and don’t need to pay tax on their income. They must publish accounts and send these to the charities commission each year; this is because they have an income of £5000 and more so they would have to register with the charity commission. The people who do run the organisation must run this in the interest of the public. Size The youth hostel is a large organisation that has over 1200 staff which includes 600 seasonal staff. They currently run a network of hostel and such as; * 200 youth hostels ( bunkhouses and camping barns, in a rural, coastal and city locations throughout England and Wales) * It is an active member of hostelling international (HI) which embraces 60 countries with 4000 youth hostels and 3.2 million member worldwide * HI is the largest budget
