Chow down! On a Literary Essay. By Mitchell Lombardi How do You Like Your Burger? Writing a literary essay could so easily be thought of as a burger! You may be thinking,how could a simple, delicious food like a burger be ANYTHING like a boring literary essay? Well think of it as this, you top bun is your Introduction to the topic, Your 3 meats are the your points/examples, and your bottom bun is finally your conclusion sentence. The Top Bun Your top bun/introduction is probably the most important part to your whole literary essay. The idea of putting your strongest point at the end is to “go out with a bang” and show the reader your clear and concise ability on the topic. The last example should contain most of your information and should be all of your powerful information backing up your strongest point. Bottom Bun The bottom bun is very important to a well organized literary essay, it contains a look back on all your different points, and an action plan that will tell people that maybe there is different ideas for the future (expanding). The bottom should be one of the shortest paragraphs out of your whole essay (only three-four sentences in length) but it should definitely be the most powerful, leaving the reader wondering what he can do to support or help your cause/ argument. Purpose As you can see, literary essays are as easy as a burger! You have all your ingredients and such, but it is up to you to figure out how to expand and make that burger look and taste great! Remember, a burger isn't a burger if you don't have a top bun, meat, or a bottom bun, so make sure it all works
