You are what you eat” is a statement that reflects on your body needing the optimum amount of nutrition to function properly. Nutrition’s is a substance that provides nourishment for growth or metabolism. Nutrition is vital for life as it provides energy for the body systems to function and allows you to perform day to day activity. Protein, carbohydrates, fats, fibres, vitamins and miners and water are all nutrients you acquire from food. If you do not require the adequate amount of these nutrients your body systems cannot function properly leading to diseases such as obesity or diabetes. Therefore “you are what you eat” refers to the fact that you need the optimum amount of nutrients to function. For example if you have a diet that consists of unhealthy foods such as pizza and donuts and you do not perform exercise on a regular basis. Then those saturated fats and low nutrition level will affect your bodily systems resulting in poor cell function and low energy levels. However by having a diet that consists of a variety of healthy foods and performing exercise frequently (such as Athletics) then your body can function at its optimum level. The body consist of millions of different types of cells and they rely on constant supply of energy from the food you take in so they are able to perform their specific task. Cells are made of bio macromolecules such as proteins which are made up of amino acids which the body uses to maintain, build and replace tissues in muscles, bones, blood and organs. Therefore it is crucial to consume protein and other nutrients in order for cells to be replenished. Carbohydrates and other nutrients also need to be readily available for the cells usage to produce energy either via aerobic respiration or anaerobic respiration. Ultimately this backs up the statement you are what you eat because the food you consume reflects on your cell
