Fitzgerald’s tone creates a threatening mood in two ways: First he forms an impression of Tom with his choice of words—hard, supercilious, arrogant, cruel. There is no mistaking Buchanan for some gentle giant.
Jonah Schulman Why did Daisy choose to stay with Tom instead of Gatsby? Daisy is madly in love with Gatsby while married to Tom at the same time. Daisy has to come to a conclusion and decide which man to choose. Daisy picks tom and the largest factor contributing to that decision is Daisy does not want people to look down upon her for leaving her husband for someone she was having an affair with. In Daisy’s opinion love is not as important as social status and Tom is in the upper-class and also a very respected man.
It was a dream of rising from the lowest point in our society and to become wealthy and well-known which would make them feel happy. Gatsby has this dream however he is overwhelmed by luxury that comes along with wealth and he does not see that money cannot buy him love and happiness. His dreams get corrupted by the snobbish people that surround him. Gatsby gets everything he wanted, he is rich and famous he even has an entanglement with Daisy – the love of his life and his other dream. However he is still unhappy, not until Daisy leaves Tom.
Parks of game and lust herbage between the inner and outer walls were something to marvel at. From the vivid description of the beautiful and sumptuous palace, Europeans had a new outlook on the Chinese and Mongols. They were not the strange, poor, and barbaric people as some had originally thought; from what they heard from Marco Polo, Kublai Khan was richer than any other man. All in all, Marco Polo changed the European perspective on Yuan China and the Mongols. Their nomadic lifestyle, families, and wealth made them appear as respectable people.
An Inspector Calls was set in 1912 – a date that represented a time where there were strong distinctions between men and women. Woman had no rights; all a well off women could do was to get married while poor women were seen as cheap labour. The men were the dominant sex and they had all the control. Throughout this play, Gerald Croft is shown to have had relationships with both Sheila Birling and Daisy Renton (Eva Smith). He appears to feel that he is loving and the "most important man" in their lives, although the audience can see that at different stages throughout the play, he was uncaring to both of them.
The protagonist’s illusion of being wealthy is shattered when he realizes he has nothing in life he truly wants. Though, West Egg, East Egg and the Valley of Ashes all differ from each other, West Egg is home to the new rich who make their fortunes later on in life. West Egg is characterized by lavish displays of wealth and poor taste. West egg is considered to be the “less fashionable of the two,” (Fitzgerald, 9). Carraway lives in a modest house that is right next to Jay Gatsby’s Gothic mansion.
On one hand, Margot is fashionable and presents herself well. Furthermore, she is “kept” by her husband in a state of luxurious affluence. Ironically, she is not “well-kept” by her husband at all, as she freely and unapologetically commits adultery. Her marriage to Francis Macomber is obviously not a happy one, but she refuses to divorce him because of his money, but Francis cannot divorce her because of her beauty. Margot is delighted when Francis runs from the lion; because she thinks it would give her more psychological control over him.
The Great Gatsby In the book,” The Great Gatsby “By F. Scott Fitzgerald the author compares and contrasts the difference and similarities between Tom and Gatsby and their own intimate relationship between Daisy. Throughout the story Gatsby thrives to reach his life goal to be with Daisy but what lies between the both of them is a brick wall, which represents Tom. Tom Buchanan is represented as a self-centered, arrogant man in the story and not many people like him in the book besides Myrtle. The difference between Tom and Gatsby is that he is a wealthy hulking man who lives in East egg where all the old money is at metaphorically speaking. Tom was part of the social club at the University Of Yale with Nick Caraway.
Also shown by the poor car mechanic husband of Myrtle being happily married and in love with his woman while the rich Tom comes around to woo his wife away secretly on her desire for a more financially stable and available man in her life. As far as the dialog of the film, all these aspects and facets of the story are interwoven into a mosaic of torment and tragedy while using many of the exact words from the book and implementing language and ideas or opinions out of the characters mouths that seem true to the established backdrop of time during the romantic and insatiable Roaring
In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald Mr. Gatsby throws numerous extravagant parties inviting many people from the town. He entertains with the desire to win Daisy’s love and live happily forever with her. While Gatsby is waiting for Daisy to come down the stairs he states, “ Her voice is full of money”, meaning she is full of pride and knows others must try and succeed at winning her love as this was Gatsby’s goal. Although Tom realized his beloved Daisy and Gatsby was having an affair. Gatsby persisted in trying to get Daisy to tell Tom she no longer loved him, even if she once did.
