Counseling Theory Paper Kenyatta J. Spencer COUN 510 Liberty University Abstract My paper explores my counseling theory from a worldview perspective. Individuals that focus on past behaviors and experiences have disorder in their lifestyles. Our decisions and reactions are significant in situations and circumstances that we encounter. Acceptance is something that we desire from the time we enter this world. As we grow, we will experience several relationships in different development stages. In some of these relationships we will be able to please others, ourselves, and God. Healthy balanced relationships are beneficial to the individual. Unbalanced relationships bring a negative view of self and disruptions in day to day life. Negative behaviors and negative cycles are able to be terminated. Psychotherapy helps reconnect and establish relationships and identifies the change that needs to take place. Philosophical Assumptions In my theory I believe that people are a product of their environment. Our life is impacted by our life experiences. In our life we are given the opportunity to make decisions of change. These decisions of change for some will allow them to be what Christ has ordained for us. The effects of our decisions will allow us to be led by God or by other forces. We are created to be in a relationship with Christ and others throughout our life. As a Christian we have authority over our life, and not our biology. Taking ownership over our life’s thoughts, actions, and behaviors will add greatly to our fellowship with Christ and others. Humanity is a in a fallen state. In the task of exploring positive avenues it will help decrease negative assumptions in a person’s life. Looking at one’s strength in characteristics and behaviors helps decrease negative emotions in a counseling setting (Harris, Thoresen,
