Luis Padilla Mr. Rob Ramaker His-1301-04 12/4/2014 World War 1 The world war was also known as the Great War, it was a global war which took places primary all Europe from 1914 to 1918. The war was causes by the assassination of Francis Ferdinand, Nationalism, Imperialism and Militarism. The main cause of the World War One was due for the assassination of Francis Ferdinand. A Serbian nationalist assassinated him and his wife while they were in Sarajevo, Bosnia. They assassinated him for protest to Austria-Hungary having control of the region. Serbia wanted to take control of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The assassination of Francis Ferdinand, led to Austria declaring war to Serbia, causing different countries declaring war to different countries. The other cause of the war was nationalism because the people from Bosnia and Herzegovina didn’t want to be part of the country of Austria-Hungary. They wanted to be part of Serbia. The nationalism of the various countries throughout Europe contributed not only to the beginning but the extension of the war in Europe. Each country tried to prove their dominance and power. The other cause of the war was imperialism because it keeps control and trade with foreign countries. For example, Germany and Austria-Hungary had few foreign colonies and their resources where going out. In order to keep their economy, they have to look someone else in order to expand their territory. The competition for expanding control and trade sustain problems with other powers. The last cause of the war was Militarism, in the world war had the greatest increase in military buildup. Other countries wanted to increase their military and navy’s also.
