Health and safety procedures and instructions are important in the workplace in order to help minimize risks and hazards for anyone to visits the workplace. Hazards and risks apply to almost every activity and piece of equipment in the workplace. Following already written and investigated procedures and instructions helps to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries. Allowing the workplace to be more productive and a safer place for everyone involved. Prestart system and equipment checks must be made to ensure potential risks do not occur. Ensuring that the equipment is not damaged before startup ensures helps to prevent possible personal injuries. To ensure this the operational status of equipment must be assessed and can be done by following the procedures of a checklist. Ensuring that electronic is in good condition, the equipment is suitable for use and workers safety are important. Steps to follow to make certain potential risks do not occur include- checking the equipment is plugged in, ensuring that equipment cords are in no way damaged and that equipment has proper ventilation. Following the checklist helps to ensure that no potential risks occur. According to Australian legislation all workplaces must have procedures for employees responding to emergency incidents. These procedures are crucial to follow at all times especially during emergency situations when panic may arise. Each workplace is responsible for covering these different procedures in staff training in will supply a copy of each emergency procedure and the steps to following it. Workplace Health and Safety officers in the workplace as well as Supervisors and Managers will have copies of the procedures if the papers given to you are lost.
