Many women probably did not even know how to write because their were neglected from their studies or were probably always to busy doing what ever their husbands wanted them to do. Rich's life was different she knew something had to change and that is the main reason why she decided to write about it. I would consider her as a model to all the other women at the time, her essay should have been a way to encourage other women to get off their buts, stop washing dishes, stop having kids, get their life together and start studying! Here are some reasons: Economic recession, infertility, education and career ambition, or medical issues, might make a woman not want to be a mother. Jessica Handler is choosing childlessness because of her biological dice is facing disbelief and disapproval from friends, family, and society in general. Although, the struggle to balance traditional culture with the modern privileges is apparent. Traditionally Greek and Roman women are suppose to uphold the duty of having and raising children, but with newfound career paths many women are having difficult obtaining both. "As a result of this dilemma, in Greece there has been a rise in abortions by working women who are afraid that pregnancy may result in the loss of their job. Indeed, many employers ask prospective female employees if they are married"(2). This fact has caused family sizes to shrink over the years giving Greece one of the lowest birthrates in Europe, and among the top five countries with the lowest birthrates in the world.
The lack of education leads to further development of barriers such as a financial barrier and poor lifestyle that makes them unable to provide for themselves and their child. Most jobs that do not require a high school diploma only offer a minimum wage and do not offer adequate benefits to meet all medical needs. “key indicators of health, infant mortality rates and low-birth weight rates, were elevated when infants were born to mothers who were less educated” (Flores et al,1998). Considering that statement I believe that the biggest barrier affecting this vulnerable population’s health is education. Vulnerable mothers that do not finish getting their education become discouraged and loose the motivation and drive to tackle the oncoming challenges that life brings, creating for them another barrier on the micro level; it being a financial barrier.
However, some women joined the work force and would do jobs that men previously had held. Some were not forced to, but they had to work as hard as they could to support their families during this difficult time. There will come a time when a woman has a tremendous amount of success coaching males. During this time of bare bones staffing. Many nurses are tired. The accuity of patients does not help this situation. Many nurses bare the achiness and tiredness and push on because the patient is their top priority and deserve the best they have to give. Other nurses and staff members are not this strong, opting to go elsewhere to only do their ‘fair share’.
