Unit CU1532/Unit CU306P 1.1 1. DiversityThe concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual. Ref: 2.Equality Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age. With particular attention to the provision made for accessibility and being made to feel that they belong. 1.2 Potential effects of Discrimination are going to cause upset and stress. It may affect a person’s self-esteem, hopes and expectations, leaving them feeling isolated or even bullyed. The victim's health may deteriorate, along with their attendance at work if the person experiences lack of support or is unable to face the perpetrator/s. Discrimination can have a lasting effect on someone.
