Wordsworth versus Blake

William Wordsworth is remembered as the founder of the Romantic Movement instead of William Blake. I believe this is because Blake had darker meanings behind his poetry. People probably were more attracted to Wordsworth because he had a warmer feel to his poetry. The fact that many people viewed Blake as crazy might, too, be a reason this occured. He did things most wouldn't find normal. It seems as though Blake had some things against him as a romantic writer. Blakes poetry tended to to have darker meanings than most romantic writers. While that still relates to the romantic theme, Wordsworths warmer poetry might've been the reason he is remembered as the Romantic Movement founder. Wordsworth would write about things related closer to love and with a more positive message. While Blake would write about things related closer to death, tragic endings, and God. Although romantic, Blake might not have come across as the romantic people wanted the way Wordsworth did. It is said that many people believe Blake was crazy. That may have been another reason he wasnt given credit for founding the movement. He spoke of talking to Jesus, walked around his garden naked, and had a dark view on the world. I'm sure many people didnt find these to be positive traits. Even given the fact he wrote outstanding poetry, people might not have given him credit because he did and viewed things differently than most. Blake is view as a romantic writer, just not the founder of the movement. It could have been that way because he was a dark person, it could have been that way because he didnt mind telling people that he talked to Jesus.
