“The fairytale of Oz” “There’s no place like home”, “Toto, I don’t think where in Kansas anymore”, “Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my”. These famous quotes derived from the legendary fairy tale “The Wizard of Oz” written by L. Frank Baum. This well-known story has numerous elements portraying it as a fairy tale. Baum describes his main protagonist, Dorothy, who embarks on a long journey “over the rainbow”. During Dorothy’s passage she realizes that good conquers evil. Just like every fairy tale “The Wizard of Oz” has its own meaning and journey that leads to a joyful ending. Dorothy, the main protagonist living on a farm in Kanas with her auntie Em and Uncle Henry feels as if she is living in a home that doesn’t feel like a home. The absence of a mother and father give her a sense of confusion. The protagonist imagines living in a dream world, which she refers to “Over the rainbow”. She feels as if all of her confusion will come to an end, and finally feel a sense of belonging. Dorothy decides to run away since she refuses to give up her dog Toto to Miss Gulch, who is prepared to put her dog down. She sees this as an opportunity to run away to a better place. During her journey she meets a phony fortune teller, who tells her that her aunt is heartbroken since Dorothy left her. Hearing this freighting news she runs back to her farm. As she arrives there she realizes that there is a twister approaching. While in her house she was knocked out by a swinging window and fell unconscious. When Dorothy awoke, she comes to realize her house landed on and killed the wicked witch who ruled the Land of the Munchkins. The Wicked Witch of the West, sister of the dead witch, threatens Dorothy. But Glinda, the good witch of the North, gives Dorothy the dead witch's enchanted Ruby Slippers to protect her. Glinda advises that if Dorothy wants to go home to Kansas, she should seek
