‘Without conflict there can be no progress’ Progress through conflict. War is a terrible thing where lives are lost under unimaginable circumstances. Conflict of any kind, personal, with someone else or with society is terrible under any circumstances. But consider a world without war, without conflict, where would society be? There would be no push for medical advances, no desire for a stable government and lastly no sort of progress in establishing a stable society. A conflict enables humans and even animals to learn from mistakes, without arguing with parents how will you know what is the right way to raise your own children? Without the conflicts that have occurred since the beginning of civilisation, where would humans be today? Primitive, or maybe extinct, because survival was regarded as being unnecessary. Conflict can be physical or emotional, internal or external and it is the external conflicts that have allowed for humans and animals to survive. The will to survive is embedded in everyone’s genes and enabled advancements to be made in fields such as technology and social structures. If there was no conflict between animal species then humans would have had no reason to build civilisations and protection. Civilisation is the development of human culture. Protections such as houses, buildings and fences have provided humans with much needed boundaries from other animals and other cities. Humans would freeze in the winter in some parts of the world and starve from lack of food sources in others if it wasn’t for the developments of human societies and cultures. War has been around since the creation of civilisations, the human species fight over differing religions and country borders.
