CH. 12: Driving In Adverse Conditions 12.1: *Reduced Visibility* * Dirty Window: Whenever visibility is reduced, drivers need more time to use the IPDE Process and apply zone control driving techniques. Windows that are dirty are danger, because you can’t see a lot of your obstacles, like other drivers, the weather, and road hazards. * Sun Glare: * Sunglasses and visors can help prevent glare. Don’t stare at sun.
It is more pronounced in the summer. (b) Why? They can keep summer temperatures way down, in the winter, they often keep temperatures from getting too cold. 4. This is a less important human cause as it doesn’t affect how quickly water reaches the river. With large floods, no matter how well the rivers are dredged, it is still likely floods would occur. A physical cause of the Somerset level floods is that they occurred over winter months, but soil moisture recharge had already occurred in October. Any excess rainfall after October would be surplus and would not infiltrate. This was not helped by the fact there were 8 storms in just 2 months. Also, over 407 years there have been 4 major floods, the frequency being 101.5 years per flood.
It is a good idea to have a curfew for young drivers because it ensures the well being of everyone on the road, and in several ways. First of all, curfews help to keep teen drivers from driving when they are less attentive to the road, like when they are tired. “Driving for just three hours at night is similar to being intoxicated, and even two hours after dark is like being buzzed.” (Squatriglia). Therefore, teens are far more likely to get in car accidents after curfew. To drive after dark, one must know how to handle dangerous situations, knowledge only gained through experience, which young drivers do not have.
Essay 1. Whether cars should be banned in all town centres is a complicated issue, and one which many people have strong feelings about. There are some reasons why cars should be banned. Firstly, it would reduce pollution greatly, which is especially important since town centres always consist of tall buildings and narrow spaces which often hold the pollution in one spot. Secondly, with less traffic there would be fewer accidents, and hence society would save money because of reduced medical expenses.
The Norse had a difficult time, due to the climate. Extremely cold winters, with barely any sunshine and a great rise of temperature during the summer time. This affected the shade of the adventures and myths about the gods. The Greek gods were seen as more cheerful compared to the Norse gods that were slightly gloomy and darker. Many Greek Myths were love stories, such as Venus and Adonis, Cupid and Psyche, though most of these stories didn't end well, if you read them they are much more light and slightly fluffy in contrast to the Norse myths that were mostly about battle and ended with violent deaths like the story of beowulf.
The sensory thresholds we have are not always fixed, but changes in response to factors like, tiredness, lack of sleep or even motivational factors like rewards associated with detecting a certain stimuli (Baron, 2001). The minimum stimulation needed to detect a stimulus 50% of the time is known as Absolute Threshold. In other words the smallest difference between the stimuli from existing and not existing at all. Noticing a stimuli is one thing, but noticing the difference in two stimuli is an important part of our sensation. For example, seeing a car driving towards us in heavy rain from a distance is one stimuli.
Cruise control is really useful when it comes to long drives on roads that are not that crowded, this way usually payoffs in a couple ways: to make it easier on you without having to hold the gas pedal on the whole trip and it will help you on your gas mileage, seeing that you won’t be accelerating at different levels. Some drivers use it to avoid unconsciously violating speed limits. A driver who otherwise tends to unconsciously increase speed over the course of a highway journey may avoid a speeding ticket. However, cruise control may go over its setting on a downhill which is steep enough to accelerate the engine. A remote keyless system is a system designed to remotely permit or deny access to your vehicle.
It protects me to get wet during the rainy season. It is really very nice situation to be driving a car than walking. Some states have banned the use of use of cellphone use unless used with a hands free device and some states banned texting while driving. If all cell phone use is banned while driving, some accidents will not occur. Are accidents rates lower for drivers that do not use cell phones? We know that car accidents happen daily, caused by faulty equipment and weather. The truth of the matter is that sometimes accidents cannot be avoided, but if adding in a distraction such as cell phone use, it increases the accident rate.
