In the story, Winter Thunder, Chuck changed. In the beginning of the story, Chuck argued with Lecia, the school teacher, and under minded her. On page 23, “The boy looked around from the fire he was nursing, and upward, but there was still no thinning of the storm, the area of snowy visibility almost as small as the confines of their new meat-freeze room at the ranch. Even so he gave the girl no sign of agreement.” Chuck was having difficulties letting Lecia take lead and agreeing with her. He started being more helpful and supportive and stopped arguing with Lecia. On page 25, “That’s a good job!” Chuck shouted over the roar of the storm as he tried to rub circulation into Joanie’s waxen feet.” Chuck was starting to become more helpful and trying to help take care of the kids. Near the middle of the story, Chuck started to be optimistic. He was starting to have more faith. “Oh, we’re okay,” Chuck said optimistically. “We can last three days easy here-” the rebellion gone from him, or hidden for the moment. Chuck didn’t want anyone to start freaking out again and he was beginning to have more hope. By the end of the story, Chuck was very quite. The only thing he would talk about were coyote hunts and another storm. On page 55, “For awhile Chuck and Eddie kept each other awake with stories of coyote hunts and with plans for another morning of storm, the sixth.” For all of these reasons and examples, Chuck changes throughout the
