I will discuss three topics areas that will demonstrate the context for the artifact: JFK as a rhetor, the occasions on which the rhetoric was presented and the audience to whom the rhetoric was addressed. Background John Fitzgerald Kennedy graduated from Harvard University in 1940 and shortly thereafter joined the Navy. While serving in WWII, his PT boat was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer; Kennedy suffered critical injuries, but still managed to get him and other survivors to safety. Davis, Henry Mosler, and the brothers Alfred and William Waud. The New York Herald which operated from 1835-1924 sold over 81,000 copies throughout the whole war. The paper was staunchly Democratic, and anti-catholic. It was also one of the first papers to report on the Battle of Fort Sumter.
