Nuclear war and the less likely, but still possible, gamma ray burst can be easily dismissed due to the lack of one key condition. A gamma ray burst is a type of explosion caused by a star nearing supernova. Its explosion sends a massive amount of radiation and energy in a very compact beam that could easily bake the planet with enough radiation that nearly all forms of complex life, humans included, would perish quickly. The resulting nuclear winter would occur causing the aforementioned minor ice age event, but it is the lack of radiation that prevents this from being a possible answer.

Pass Duck and Cover Living in today’s world and what it would mean to have a threat to the United States, it would be an unexplained disaster. Because of today’s technology is so advanced and whoever decides to do such a thing, will want to end the world. Such an attack by a single Iranian nuclear missile could have a catastrophic impact upon the United States by causing an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) over a portion of the country. Such an attack could quickly turn a third or more of the United States back to a 19th century level of development.
The government has spent 10 billion dollars on the Yucca Mountain project already so it would be a waste to not use it, don’t we want our tax dollars to be well spent? We should use Yucca Mountain to dispose of our nuclear waste. If we do not dispose of the waste soon then perhaps, a leak could occur in a nuclear waste container and it would do damage to our country. We would not want that. With the design of the steel barriers that would contain the repository, which is similar to a big steel box, the site would be good for thousands of years to come.

For the past sixty years, nuclear weapons have been used as a deterrent. A deterrent from other nuclear weapons. This is completely absurd. By owning an atomic bomb, a country can ‘scare’ every other country that owns an atomic bomb from attacking them. So if this bomb was ever actually used it would completely defeat the point of the bomb.
Residents went to emergency shelters because of the radiation. Equipment failure, human error, and bad luck would conspire to create America’s worst nuclear accident. The impact of Three Mile Island was terrible, there was a massive cleanup. The cleanup started in August of 1979 and officially ended in December of 1993. The cleanup cost about 975 million dollars.
The actual collapse was apparently due to such severe structural damage and the eventual snapping of support beams. Although…due to investigations carried out by many scientists and experts we now know that this is just not plausible. (A building made to be able to handle terrorist attacks and severe fire just gives way less than an hour after impact.) This makes me very suspicious. Once the first plane had struck the north tower there was obviously explosions in approximately 3 floors around the impact zone, but another explosion occurred almost 20 floors below…this explosion was nothing to do with the impact of the aircraft but something far more devious, explosives.
