Essay #1 – concept of discovery – The concept of discovery has been successful explored throughout the related materials, STA travel, I forgot my phone and A sunrise on the Veld (by Lessing). The director/ author has successfully achieved this through the film and language techniques they used. --- need to work on my introductions STA Travel explores the concept of discovery through many techniques such as montage and vector. Montage is used consecutively throughout the clip, which shows different places a guy has visited on his journey around the world. This is effective in exploring the concept of discovery as it shows the guy in each photo in the montage in different places discovering what remarkable places there are in the world.

Sam Student Krissy O’Grady English 11B 5 Nov 2013 Improve Yourself Nick The narrator in the book, The Great Gatsby, is named Nick Carraway who can use a little more improvement in his life. He lots to others to add interest into his life and he likes people with money have everything. Nick has a neighbor called Jay Gatsby and he is one of those people that parties all night and has more than enough money to throw these parties. Nick looks up to this man and that is where he needs his first correction. Nick needs to have more self-esteem and to forget about money and power.
Pretty much everything the Army uses for communication. I was at Ft. Gordon for a while, I brought my Cell and Laptop. When I first got there, they tried to take it away, because the first part is a Basic Training Environment. Not so much stress, but you don't really have alot of freedom. From there you move up to other levels that allow you to go out on weekends, then eventually stay out for the whole weekend.
F. Scott Fitzgerald was a man seen by many as a Shakespeare of the 1920s, a time he himself coined the “jazz age.” The roaring twenties were a time of prosperity and triumph for many Americans. It was a time of fun and partying, fueled by the money and power of the wealthy. Fitzgerald wasn’t born rich but he had a certain drive within him that he often reflected in the characters of the stories he wrote. Throughout his life he often found himself striving for one thing; to be noticed. During high school, college, and even the years after that he always wanted to be seen and seen as the best.
It has always been a part of life for things to change for better or worse. In the essay “The Traveling Bra Salesman’s Lessons”, Claudia O’Keefe describes how the work business changes over a period of time. She explains how it takes a drastic toll on her life and everything around her. O’Keefe’s stepfather was a very popular salesman that provided for them so well that they practically lived in a worry free upper-middle class. They lived in “upscale Los Angeles suburb” and took annual vacations.
The use of ethos in Romney's speech is in a way similar to Obama's because they both evoke dependability and respect from the nation based on their initiative and previous experience. There are many special people that are currently in the world today. Also a lot of them are decease now but left with good legacies. If I had the chance to meet and spend an evening with someone I would choose Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he is a human icon today. Many people look up to him for the things he did. The reason why I choose Dr. King was because of his legacy in the world.
Journal #6 Immigration is a bigger deal than thought it was. Watching the film we watched last Tuesday it really showed me a lot about immigration in our country and the problems they get once they get here in our country. It made me really think about how much stuff I got for free for just being born in this country. I feel almost blessed to be a part of this country without feeling like I have to prove my citizenship. I don’t want to take the things I have for granted.
