Surveys could be a good thing with the questionnaires and interviews if all the people were honest during the survey, or people could have been dishonest and didn’t want to reveal the truth maybe because they feel ashamed for masturbating at a young age or being sexually active before marriage. There are four different types of methods: case studies, survey, direct observation, and experimental method. There are advantages and disadvantages to each method. The advantages for Kinsey’s survey research method are people were more open to talk about sex and if Kinsey interviewed other ethnicities, he would have had different results. The disadvantages are that Kinsey only interviewed white, middle class and college
Furthermore, Orsino dispatches messengers such as `Cesario’ to “unfold the passion of [his] love”. If he were in love with Olivia, he would have grown impatient and have visited her himself but he does not. It could be interpreted as hiding behind courtly love to extend his time in this ‘rejected love’. Finally, note that he speaks of love in the abstract, not as a feeling but as a being. This shows his desire for love to be whole so he may totally embrace it.
Sure, sometimes he may have acted crazy. Okay. But he loved me. In his own way maybe, but he loved me." (pp 110-111) To the reader, it seems hard to believe that there could be love in a relationship where one partner physically abuses the other.
Romeo is blinded by love, risking the danger of being caught by the Capulet’s and killed outside of Juliet’s balcony. It is safe to say that Romeo’s physical attraction towards Juliet played, not only a small part of his love, but was the entire reason for his love. Romeo and Juliet had never met and knew nothing about the other except what they looked like. Physical attraction is the only reason for love at first sight because you like what they look like and you can make up who they are as a person. You like the idea of you and this beautiful person together.
we see him trying with a great effort the first time he talks to Roxane without cyrano. The poor man is bad with words, but he does love her dearly. The other love triangle we see is Roxane with De Guiche/valvert. Although its not the same type of love triangle since this love is not returned from roxane to anyone, it is still an example. De guiche loves roxane, but since he is married, is having Valvert marry her instead, so he can then turn around and keep her close.
Even today in some cultures monogamy and love are not seen as a necessary part of a marriage, men or woman can seek out other needs and not be ridiculed for it It is believed mostly in Western culture that “married couples should be best friends, sharing their most intimate feelings and secrets. They should express affection openly but also talk candidly about problems and be sexually faithful to each other. Emotional happiness seems the ultimate goal. A happy marriage is defined differently throughout the world, but only recently have the emotional and sexual needs of the partners become emphasized. Sell2 This seems unrealistic when compared against a historical world view especially how Western Cultures revere marriage.
While this may seem ridiculous to us at first glance, it is actually quite similar to how we judge a person unconsciously. While we as a society attempt to help the homeless and less fortunate, as individuals we become uneasy around people whose bodily hygiene is lacking. Whenever we go on a date or have a big job interview, we make sure to thoroughly cleanse ourselves, and wear some of our nicest clothing. Another strong similarity that is shown between a modern culture and that of the Nacirema is the idea of holy men. In their culture, the medicine man is an incredibly important figure.
He is saying that is might not be wise for loving him, but he swears it won’t be stupid for he is going to be “horribly” in love with her. The word choice of “horribly” emphasizes a sense of awkwardness because he doesn’t know the first thing when it comes to love. It also gives a bit of that comical side to Benedick’s character, even in the name of love, he still can’t forget about the competition between him and Beatrice.
Instead he advises princes to be misers. Even though in the beginning the people may despise him for being “stingy”, in the end they will be thankful and they will soon think of the prince as being generous. Machiavelli states “it would be good to be considered generous” (41), however, when one is extremely generous the receivers look at the gift as a must. The receivers stop thanking and instead believe that they deserve the generosity from the prince. The prince then keeps giving.
Wilde uses clever puns to create farce within the play and often mocks the moral values of love within a marriage. In Act 1, after Lane leaves the room after a conversation referring to his views on marriage; Algernon says “Lane’s views on marriage seem somewhat lax. Really, if the lower orders don’t set us a good example, what on earth is the use of them? They seem, as a class, to have absolutely no sense of moral responsibility.” He refers to marriage as a “moral responsibility”, which could imply a homosexual undertone on his behalf. Since Wilde himself was gay it is almost as if he is trying to hint through to everybody the fact that he is homosexual, and by doing this we get a hint of Wilde’s personality through the play.
