Why is President JFK such a famous and controversial figure today? President John Fitzgerald Kennedy is still such a famous and controversial figure today because of the events in which he was involved in when alive and the controversy surrounding his death. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States serving from 1961 until his assassination in 1963 at the age of 46. He came from a large and wealthy Irish Catholic family. Kennedy was the second of nine children and was brought up in a family that demanded intense intellectual competition between members. His father, Joseph Patrick Kennedy, had acquired a multimillion-dollar fortune in banking, bootlegging, shipbuilding, and the film industry. His mother, Rose, was the daughter of John F.
