Essay Christopher Columbus was an explorer which was born in the Republic of Genoa in 1451. Columbus can be considered one of the best explorers ever, but he considered himself a failure. Because he thought he had found India when he had actually found the Americas. Even with this mistake Columbus achieved a lot in his Navigational life, since he found some islands which today are known as Bahamas, and he lead to the European colonization in the Americas. So can Columbus be really considered a failure? Columbus had a plan to find a new route to the East, and eventually reach Asia. Since Columbus needed someone to sponsor the expedition he went to ask the King of Portugal l to sponsor, but the Portuguese nautical experts thought the plan wouldn’t work, and the trip would be a waste of money, afterwards Columbus tried to take his plan to Genoa and then Venice, but they also rejected him. Afterwards he went to ask the monarchy of Spain of Fernando Aragon, and Isabella Castille to sponsor his trip, at first Spain said no because they were…show more content…
He also failed one of his major objectives which were to bring back to Spain a lot of riches such as gold. His failures also include the fact that he didn’t find a new route to the East, because the trade winds pushed him west, and thus finding the Americas. During his explorer days Columbus was able to achieve some important discoveries, but still in my opinion he can be considered a failure since he wasn’t able to achieve his primary goals which were to find riches, and to discover a new route to the East.
