What came across your mind while you hear the word ‘recycle’? Anyone? Do you know, in February this year, it was reported that the capital of China, BeiJing has faced a land shortage due to the rubbish created by the people. Imagine this happened in our country, our home; it would be awful, isn’t it? However, what if there are ways to reduce the chance of this tragedy to happen? Recycling is one of them. When you type in the word ‘recycle’ in Google, you will know that recycling is the process to change the waste into something new, return the waste material into their previous useful state, and make use of the product again. Recycling is important in today’s world if we want to leave this planet for our future generations. Recycling begins at home. Instead of throwing off your old products like empty toilet rolls, you can collect them and create some art pieces or anything creative. When you think of recycling you should really think about the whole idea: reduce, reuse and recycle. If you disagree with the idea of recycling, let me tell you a few perspectives that will probably change your mind. First of all, Recycling saves energy. Recycling saves energy because the manufacturer doesn’t have to produce something new from raw natural resources. By using recycled materials we save on energy consumption, which keeps production costs down. Here is an example of conversion: if we recycle one aluminium can, we are able to save enough energy to run a TV for around 3 hours. This will obviously depend on the energy consumption of your TV, but it gives you a great idea as to just how much energy can be saved during the process of recycling products. Recycling and purchasing recycled products creates a greater demand for more recycled goods that made from recycled materials use less water, creates less pollution and uses less energy. This is good for economy.
