It is important to remain completely professional at all times because you are performing a duty of care. If a staff member has any issues they should be discussed directly with a manager as soon as possible, so the best standard of work can be carried out. Outcome 2 Be able to reflect on own work activities 1. In my role as a carer it is important to reflect on activities in the work place because we can assess what activities certain service users enjoyed or didn’t enjoy, and that helps create more suitable activities for the service users in the future, experiencing different activities can teach me new skills like how to work with service users that have less mobility, or have difficulty understanding complicated tasks. Reflecting on
Hand gels should only be used as an interim measure until you are able to perform a proper hand wash; they are not a suitable replacement for good hand washing. Uniforms must be kept clean and tidy, and I wear a clean uniform every day. Tunics should have short sleeves to prevent them from dragging in body fluids when undertaking moving and positioning procedures. I must not go to the shops in my uniform, because I could be spreading bacteria and infectious agents. Personal hygiene is also important in the fight against infection.
Unit 23 Support Personal Hygiene 1.1 Explain why personal hygiene is important? Personal hygiene is important as good personal hygiene reduces the spread of bacteria and other unwanted offensive materials which also reduce the spread disease. Also if personal hygiene is maintained it provides a good and professional impression. 1.2 Describe the effects of poor hygiene on health and wellbeing? Poor hygiene can affect health by spreading disease and making people ill, Poor hygiene affects a person’s wellbeing by making them feel unclean and smelly which could affect the individual by causing them to become depressed, lack motivation & wanting to be alone.
Task 1: Understanding the importance of good personal hygiene. ⦁ Good personal hygiene is important because when we are in close contact with other people body odor or bad breath can be quite offensive to some people and so it is not only essential for well being, but for health reasons too (both mental and physical) Keeping clean and maintaining a respectable appearance are vital to boosting self-esteem no matter who you are, as there are those in society that will not tolerate any sort of neglect to these areas and if they come into contact with some who has bad body or bad breath will most certainly take offense to it and/or will quite probably remark about it to the person in such a way that it hurts that persons feelings and so is further detrimental to their self-esteem. So it is important to be sensitive and tactful when addressing such an issue with someone who is clearly having problems in maintaining a good level of personal hygiene so that their feelings are protected. ⦁ Poor hygiene can lead to all sorts of problems for an individual most likely being unpleasant smells, dermatitis such as sores, blisters and in some cases infections such as scabies or even lice which can lead to long term skin problems if not treated. If the individual is under constant verbal abuse for their poor hygiene it will more often than not result in the person feeling unconfident from low self esteem, which can lead to depression and isolation.
3. By ensuring all staff are fully trained in infection control and waste management it will minimise the spread of infection. If members of staff are designated a cleaning job each day this will keep the environment clean and limit the spread of infection. If the environment is not managed correctly, cleaning may be missed for several days leading to patients becoming unwell and catching infections. 4.

Explain how effective communication affect all aspects of own work Communication is a basic requirement of my job role to communicate with individuals and their families, other members of staff on a daily basis. Communicating with other staff members ensures effective team working and continuity of care. It also ensures any health and safety issues are recognised and reported. At this point the industrial hygienist must use administrative control, engineering control, or personal protective equipment to help this employee from feeling that strain or stress. Of course, this is just one way in which our class relates to the job I have chosen. Another excerpt from the job description says “Manage, conduct, supervise, and implement the industrial hygiene surveys and programs.” This again is another basic industrial hygiene concept that we learned within the the first week or so. Industrial hygienist do things like create workplace surveys to get feedback from employees on what they could improve. They also create programs to help educate and keep employees safe.
