Why Are Parents Sometimes Strict? Parents tell you over and over that they know what is best for you. But most teenagers disagree with this statement. Teenagers believe that they know everything and do not need advice from their parents. But sometimes this is not the case. Some teenagers get into trouble at school and with the law this causes parents to be stricter with their child. Some parents choose to be strict because of the mistakes they had made in their past, they believe it is the only way their child will achieve things in life, or that if they give their child too much freedom this will result in the child getting into trouble. Firstly, nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, even parents. Some parents may have done things in their past that they do not want their child to repeat. This causes them to be extra sensitive to certain situations that come up in raising a teenager like drugs, alcohol, school work, and sex. Some mothers may have became mothers too soon and do not want their daughter to follow in her footsteps. Some parents may have become addicted to drugs, smoking cigarettes, or alcohol while they were a teenager and does not want their child to become addicted as well. Parents believe that if they are not tough on their that they will not achieve anything in the real world. They believe that their child will never graduate high school, go to university, or get a good paying job. This proves correct in some cases. Some students whose parents are not present in their life are not motivated in school and this will result in never amounting to their full potential.
