Troy Davis became the topic of conversation this past August, his case reached all publicity when he went back to trial. Troy Davis accused of killing a security officer during a physical altercation at a Burger King parking lot. Troy Davis was convicted of murder and lesser charges and sentenced to death in August 1991. Troy Davis is the last inmate being executed in the State of Georgia. Although the death penalty has been around for many years, and to have it expunged has been a fight to the end. Though Troy Davis was put to death, he still felt that justice was not served. The innocent being convicted, justice still isn’t served. 139 men and women have been released from death row, minutes away from execution. There are over 22,000 homicides committed every year and only 150 people are sentenced to death. Most of the inmates on death row could not afford an attorney. Most of the attorneys provided for them were the least paid and also inexperienced. Even though they had the right to an attorney, I think that it is unfair that they attorney is inexperienced for capital cases. In 164 cases, 1 in 4 is represented by a public defender. Publicity for the lawyers is a major issue; the death penalty could go against the moral belief system. Some maybe for the death penalty but contradict their beliefs for the case. In closing, using the death penalty is most hash punishment the government can participate with. Inmate can be incarcerated for years of their lives to later find out they were wrongly convicted and came inches away from death because of the governments mistakes. The death penalty still does not decrease the rates of crime and cost taxpayers more money. Also, inmates are represented by less experienced lawyers who are unfair to any
