By the time that we were in middle school, the majority of my friends felt that reading was a chore and turned their noses up at any books I'd suggested to them. It's only logical to conclude that there is some grievous error that teachers are making between first grade and junior high school. That's not to say that students cannot be rescued from this loathing of books during high school, but by the manner that high school teachers present them, that isn't a likely prospect. The serious decline of youths reading literature that Francine Prose notes in her essay is a depressing, almost tragic circumstance. If reading is exercise for the brain, then are teachers doing enough in other areas of education to promote thinking?
I told him what happened at school. I told him how I hate reading, and that I wanted to be home schooled. I begged him to take me out of school.He was surprised. He said, “Don’t worry, you’re a great reader. In fact, you’re the greatest reader in that whole school.” I wasn’t convinced.
Conformity vs. Individuality State education and student individuality are what causes much tension in public schools. Schools want to achieve the same goal of producing a good student, but through what means? Are mandatory classes going to teach students to think for themselves of how to blend in with conformity and obey authority? It is in the schools best interest to balance these ideas and not lean towards only one, and not have a school only based on conformity or individuality, but should balance both. Mandatory classes are used to set a basic system and to set standard classes for everyone, since everyone must learn the same things such as math, reading, and science.
My cooperating teacher told me that it’s a good thing if the administration knows your name for positive things not for discipline problems you cannot take care of in your own classroom. As I have had to learn by experience and practice, classroom management is all based on judgment calls. There is no rule book for classroom management and each and every class is different. Having read this book a few months ago when EDU 511 first started I have had a lot of time to be in the classroom. In practice, there are certain behaviors that I have learned to ignore.
Erica Goldson Valedictorian Speech Response Erica Goldson brought up a very controversial and very interesting topic about our current education system in the US. She states that students are so focused at memorizing data and getting good grades, that they miss out on the whole idea of learning and being educated. I agree with her, students should be learning and absorbing the material, instead of memorizing for the next big test and just forgetting about it later on. Graduating seems like the top priority in students nowadays, and to me that is just upsetting. And the students who are very talented and are very motivated to learn and be driven in a non-academic subject seem to have a more negative image than the people who are driven by academics.
As well did I when I first read Gatto's piece against school. But after reanalyzing this article I was able to pick it apart. By going to school you are able to learn and improve the skills you need for future commissions. But Gatto refuses to believe in the public school educational system. Gatto says that school diminishes creativity; if anything kids discover their hidden creativeness in class while at school.

"Against School" As I look at my kids as they do their homework it seems challenging at times, or I find them being bored with it and wanting to either do more work or not wanting to do any work at all. They seem to understand it’s just not challenging enough, or they may just be bored. Entry 2 I hate Mid-terms. How are we supposed to remember every little detail that we learn? I have been study a lot and getting ready for them. I got an A on the quiz in trig which made me feel more eager to get back into school and get the good grades. My visits with Berger are making me feel a lot better.
Now I am working on my long term goals. My long term goals as of today are finishing college and getting my degree in early childhood education and becoming a teacher. I have decided to return to school to further my education. I always wanted to be a teacher. I love helping my kids with their homework.
Perez, Enrique English 1301.257 Caroline Mains March 30, 2014 A big part of one’s life may be attending school because that is what leads them to the career they wish to be in for the rest of their living. I have learned so much because of the challenges I have faced throughout my academic career. I have put up with crazy teachers, tough assignments, and my own uncertainty of things. To this day I am happy to say that I have gotten passed those things and will keep beating more problems to get to where I will be later in life. During my high school years, a big issue of mine was some of the teachers.
