Her reviews would take shape only after she gave herself permission to write a terrible first draft. Lamott’s intended audience is anyone who wants to write, either for class or simply for leisure. Hence, her audience is quite wide and I applaud her for using simple language, without resorting to complex jargons, in making her point. The purpose of her essay is to change the dynamics of writing. Often to amateur writers, the process of writing seems like a chore; a mountain of words to sieve through before they can create a comprehensible wall of text.
These words are also very encouraging and eye-opening to me because I used to think the emotions described were a sign that I was not truly a writer. It is refreshing and comforting to know that even a successful novelist such as Waters experiences the doubt, fear, and strain that I feel when writing. This statement discredits the idea that writing is always fun and free-flowing. I feel like I can now, after reading this, write with a little more confidence because I know there are others out there—groaning, wondering, and panicking—just like
This is a fun dramatic story that lets the audience laugh and cry with Janie and her friends, but fails to deliver in the way of explaining the characters actions through the analysis of human nature. To decide what side you agree with you have to get the book and read it for yourself, I’m sure afterwards you will feel exactly as I
In fact, every time I just hope that my brain will come with something creative that I could start with. Writing assignments, sometimes it makes me feel as the world is conspiring against me; on one side of my brain are the negative thoughts and fear that keep me away from writing a great paper, and on the other side, instead of positive mind, I encounter with the thoughts like, “Do I ever going to present a really great essay?”, “Will I pass the class?” But, not everything had been unfavorable on my writing experience. Although of all these dissection, I have accomplished great things as well. For instance, I learned more about myself; I have learned things I needed to improve and change on my writing, and about my fears. Additionally, I have noticed tremendous progress on my writing skills, that is, I write much faster now, therefore, I get better papers and grades.
What you have to do is trust your own story. Get the hell out of the way and let it tell itself.” (106). This comment reflects on the idea that the stories force their own way out, and in a way tell themselves. This is because after being repressed for so long, they sort of just blurt out. I found ‘The Man I killed’ to be a particularly interesting story out of this book.
I had an answer, but I struggled terribly with putting it down on paper because I wanted this interview to “be perfect”. I was too worried about what I looked like or sounded like, so ultimately I had lost “my voice.” I went to my dad for more help. I had wasted a whole hour stressing over how to answer a few questions about myself. My dad told me something very important that day, he said, “The best way to impress someone is to be you”. After meditating on what he said to me I had at least something to put down.
However, as I learn to write better I am starting to see why the author uses so many stories and many large words to get his point across. If the author did not go into detail about what he was writing about someone might not get the point that he was trying to get across. After reading Yosemite Mon Amour, numerous times I begin to have a clear understanding of why there is so much detail in the story. I felt that the essay was to long because of many stories that the author had written. At the time of first reading this story it seemed as though the author was jumping around and I had a hard time following where he was going with the story this started right from the first paragraph I had no idea why the author was describing Toyotas, and Winnebago’s and then jumping into describing rain.
And although writing is hard because there are thousands of rules to follow, we are encouraged to set aside those so-called rules, write rhetorically, make a breakthrough and try something new. To me, the most useful “metaphoric musing” is the “use your higher brain” one. Writing last-minute essay and mind going blank are just my stories. Under such stressful situation, I can’t write anything that really represents
It is also the hope we all as a human being need. As a clear example we can use the essay “A Book-Writing venture” by Kim Yong Ik, where even though Kim’s novels got rejected several times by publishers he never gave up and kept trying. This example informed us that perseverance made Kim reach the dream of his novels being published. It also showed us how a perseverant person would definitely succeed in live. Another example could be me that even though the doctors told me I was not going to recover the sense of my left leg I kept doing my therapies.
In some cases for the person you love, them being happy does not always mean being with you. For this paper, I am going to release my inner Ferris Bueller and address the reader/ audience/ listener/ whatever you want to call it. Though I am probably going to fail this paper, I write with the utmost confidence that it will go down in history as the most anti-Gibson ever written, and I can only hope he will use
