Why, oh why, do I study literature? It's because amidst all the hustle and bustle in my life, apart from scrambling here and there, doing this work and that, I need something that seals me within a white picket fence with a sign that says 'I am content. Come again later.' I dont think that stands just for me, but for everyone. Everyone needs an escape from reality at some point or the other. To write is to forget. In all honesty, I believe that literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life. Think about it. Music soothes, artwork exhilarates and performances entertain. Literature, however, retreats from life by turning into a slumber. A novel is a story of what never was, a play is a novel without narration and poetry is made up of ideas and feelings in a language…show more content…
I can be the world's greatest sorceress, or even a little girl from the prairie. Even though I can be all those people and more, I know that whatever personality I decide to embrace within the period of time that I hold a piece of writing in my hand, I'll always find a part of me in each and every one of those characters. Maybe that's why I study literature. Maybe that, or maybe it's the way that I've learned so much about myself through my writing. Over time, my writing has grown with me. There was a time when I thought writing was about being a big, hot-shot author personality and being known all over for your work. Over time, I realized that when you write, you dont write for the fame, you write to spread a message, to tell a story, to touch a heart. I always thought that to be a successful author, alot of people should have read and enjoyed your writing, but then I understood that the truth was completely the opposite. It doesnt matter if a million people read your work, or only one. As long as what you've written reaches out and touches one soul, as long as it makes a difference to one person, thats considered good literature, or so I
