Amber Solberg Mrs. Amini Government 21 May 2014 Should You Have The Right To Stand Your Ground? Dark hoodie. Skittles in one hand, cell phone in the other. That was all that was found on the body of Trayvon Martin, a seventeen-year-old African American high school student after he was shot dead by George Zimmerman, former neighborhood watch captain. This trial created a national uproar, opening the first of many debates regarding Stand Your Ground Laws, state which that person may use lethal force with no duty to retreat when faced with a “reasonable perceived threat” (US News).
I could not believe a first grader shot another first grader. I could not believe two students shot their own peers. The violence in America is ridiculous. I don’t understand why people choose to kill other people. I wish I could understand so I could help prevent them from doing so.
We need stricter laws on gun ownership, it seems that as long as an individual doesn’t have a criminal background they are allowed to bear arms. I think this is fair but the individual should be evaluated before having this right to bear arms. Juarbe 2 Works Cited Staff Writer. How To Undersatnd the Pros and Cons of Gun Control: Gun Debate. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. [1] With the second amendment allowing the common citizen the right to bear guns, one can legally apply and obtain a license to carry with them these weapons. Thus, the common people are armed awarding them with the ability of fighting chance against possible tyranny. Of Course, the idea of our American government committing such horrible, imposing, and unwanted acts on its people and the people actually forming a militia and treason to fight back sounds ridiculous in today’s reality; it does not mean it will never happened. After all, where would the United States be today without the original colonies arming themselves, forming militia, and performing a bit of treason.
The main topic is however, should other people besides the police be able to carry and own a gun. I can say that we would all agree that guns or any type of weapons are not wanted in "just anybody's hands". However, this is the very reason we need to be able to protect ourselves. There are people in this world that are not mentally stable, and if they want to have a gun, they will have a gun whether obtained legally or illegally. This knowledge alone should make people understand why everyone should be allowed, at least given the opportunity to own a gun.
In America they need to create better safety gun controls. They should have a smart gun, which the gun only fires in the hands of its owner which have a companion watch on. If a person doesn’t have the companion watch those guns would not be allowed to fire. As gun control is such a controversial topic that leads to arguments of whether it should be legalized or not, the idea that we would not be able to defend ourselves, should the need arise, is a horrific nightmare and almost a terrible reality. Legalizing gun control will only further the pain caused to our country through the many instances that have occurred in the past and recently.
There is no other country that has laws that protect an individual's right to bear arms. Everyone wants a simple answer to the controversy over gun control, but the truth is there is no simple answer. Gun control laws are ineffective at controlling crime because they only control the law abiding citizens, criminals are not concerned with gun laws. so you may ask, what do we do? Everyone thinks that the constitution has our rights protected, but what many people do not realize is that the constitution is constantly being challenged by law makers, states and individuals alike.
He also wanted to kill himself because he couldn’t handle it anymore. He was tired of seeing his family suffer from something that wasn’t even his fault. A plan that South El Monte High School has if someone would try to commit suicide is quite hard because they say that every case is unique. They would have to be notified by someone close or a friend at school who they have spoken about committing suicide. If they do try and stop the student from committing suicide they will bring a therapist to help them with their problems, therefore if the student acts crazy they have the authority to hold him in for twenty four hours.
I think that he should have consulted with his wife, kids, and Tracy’s doctor first. I find nothing okay with what he did, it was horrible and I completely disagree! Sure his daughter was in agonizing pain, but there were much better ways to end her life. What he did was not okay, and I just hope that he regrets everything he did and that he wishes he had talked to someone before doing
Many teachers, peers and even parents don’t realize just how many of the people around them suffer for this disease. In the book Dave says, “Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold left warnings all around them...they recorded their vitriol on film while manipulating every adult who could have stopped them.” The fact that the two students left warnings yet no one saw them is a very scary thing. This was Dave’s message exactly, not just our country but also the entire world needs to be more cautious about the lives and feelings of those around
