He is highly respected within Maycomb, Judge Taylor says that he is “always courteous to everybody” and Miss Maudie proclaims “we trust him to do right.” Even though Atticus actions of protecting Tom Robinson brought him to be the object of scorn in Maycomb ironically he is a heroic figure in the novel. He is a widower left with two lovable children, Jem and Scout. Lee presents him as a conscientious father, he is honest, straightforward, and throughout the novel he listens to them and deals with any questions they may ask. He says to his brother Jack, “when a child asks you something answer him.” Atticus treats his children as adults; he believes they can “spot an evasion quicker than adults.” Atticus practices the ethic of sympathy and understanding that he preaches to Scout and Jem and never holds a grudge against the people of Maycomb despite their callous indifference to racial inequality. He is sensitive in his treatment of people and he understands other individual’s feelings.
His family sometimes did not even have enough for him to eat. Richard was hungry and there was nothing that could have been done about it in his mother’s eyes. At one point, Richard’s mother had to send him to an orphanage because she did not have enough money to feed him. “Once again I knew hunger, biting hunger, hunger that made my body aimlessly restless, hunger that kept me on edge, that made my temper flare, hunger that made me hate leap out of my heart like the dart of a serpent’s tongue, hunger that created in me odd cravings.” (103) Richard knew how hunger felt, and he did not like it. “My life now depended upon my finding work, and I was so anxious that I accepted the first offer, a job as a porter in a clothing store selling cheap goods to Negroes on credit.” (179) Another evident hunger in Richard was his hunger for money.
He was also close to his two brothers Ronald and Stan. Life seemed perfect in the boys’ eyes. David’s relationship with his mother was warm and loving in the beginning. But his mother’s love and affection suddenly changed overnight. David went from being a part of a warm, caring family to daily abuse that almost killed him.
John’s mother was devoted to her children, especially John, and could not do enough for them, always spoiling them in any way that she could. Unfortunately, she also died within a year of her husband’s death, which devastated John and sent him in to bouts of depression – this was when he began to suffer from significant sadness. Since the death of his parents, John, who has never been married, began to go to work less and less until he was signed off by his doctor with depression. His is now on long term sick from his job as a civil servant, and chooses to stay up late, often throughout the night, and then sleep all day which hinders his social interaction and exacerbates his sadness. His two older sisters have started doing all
He probably had so many good memories there. He must have felt pride in land he owned and pictured it getting passed down through the generations. Granpa Joad didn’t want to separate from the family he loved them very much. Granpa Joad was rude and grumpy but showed his love in his brief time in the story. He was really excited when Tom finally returned.
Once he came home from the rehab facility my girlfriend helped take care of him while I was at work. She helped in every way she could and one of my dad’s last wishes was that I merry her because of what she had did for him. She is now my ex-wife but I will never forget how much she cared for me and my dad at our time of need. My dad Frank J Anderson in my opinion was the greatest man that ever lived. He was a hard worker, a provider, a teacher, and a father.
But few died from starvation. The Children during the great depression to on jobs when their parents could not or when they needed more money. Some children raised their siblings due to parents being gone to work half the time. Some children found themselves comforting their parents due to depression or over whelming stress. When people were evicted from their house the sometimes would have to use pieces of lumbar and cardboard boxes they would build miny houses or shacks and call them “hoovervilles” they named them after president hover because so many people thought that it was his fault that the depression had started.
The next person that helped me wasjoe, I met joe when I joined FAB, and he is extremely supportive and also pushes us to do better. joe always has his door open for any student concerns or questions and for that I greatly appreciate
Due to his mums alcohol addiction she was often either drunk or hung over. With his mum unable to keep a table job the rent often went unpaid which let to being evicted yet again. Being the only carer and feeling that he had a responsibility to car for his mother saw NAME dedicating most of his time taking care of his mum and the house. With little free time and no support, school work was rarely completed which resulted in poor results at school. Between all the physical and mental abuse from both parents and the poor school results, NAME managed to push through and successfully complete year 10.
It not only affects the married couple but the children suffer as well, if not more. Even though my mom and dad were not meant for each other they were and continue to be very good parents. Because of all the hardships in my family I left at seventeen for almost three years. I struggled working multiple jobs at once, dropping in and out of college and moving on a regular basis for various reasons. Those few years were very hard, especially on my own.
