Why Do We Lie? Why Do We Lie? Most kids are raised by their parents not to lie. The brain is an incredible muscle that needs just as much exercise as any other muscle in the body. It is utilized on a daily basis and if not used, like any other muscle, it loses its efficiency. Lies can vary from the simple to the complex and they both require the use of the brain. The simple ones may be small and easy to remember as compared to the big lies which require a more in depth thought process and require a person to remember quite a bit of information. A lie can be described as an exaggeration of the truth or a made up occurrence or belief. We will discuss a variety of lies, the thought process involved and most importantly why we as human beings lie. Lying usually involves two or more people although there are exceptions to that. A lie can be fabricated by one person and that same person believes it so much that they actually live the lie. These people are called pathological liars. They invent a story and begin and play it over and over in their heads until they start to live the lie and become so involved in it that they do not know what is true or not. These people historically have a tendency of being mentally ill or end up going insane due to the lack of reality. It does not always have to be that drastic though. There are also times when people lie to themselves with simple unimportant lies and it becomes their mission in life to live up to the lie. The most typical types of liars are those that lie to others. Statistics show that everyone has lied at one point in life or another. Nobody is perfect and sometimes lies are needed to help a friendship or avoid conflict. Take for example a man asks his wife if she thinks he looks fat. In her mind she does in fact think he looks a little “chunky” yet in order to avoid an argument she says he looks fine. Does the
