Grothe and Dacey (being atheists themselves) understand that atheists are misunderstood and misrepresented by society, but they are not being oppressed. Next, the authors list off some minority groups throughout history who actually faced discrimination. These groups, such as
Response to an Atheist In the article “On Being an Atheist”, H.J. McCloskey tells his readers that his intent is to remind his fellow atheist of the inadequacies of which theist base their beliefs in God upon, why atheist don’t believe there’s a God, why atheism is a much more comfortable belief than theism, and why theist should be miserable just because they’re theist. McCloskey opens his discourse directing our attention at the so-called “proofs” a theist has for their theism. The problem with this is that he doesn’t clarify what he means by “proofs”. The lack of clarification for the term “proofs” does a disservice to McCloskey’s opening.
The two people who stand out during this time period are Martin Luther and John Calvin. They both took a stand against what they believed was wrong. Luther did not agree with the idea of indulgences, or the paid remission of temporal punishment, and Calvin wanted to be independent of the Church. The Church was not pleased with these outcries, and persecuted these men as heretics. The Church was criticized for a large number of things by the Protestants.
Response to Being an Atheist Christina Yarbrough PHIL 210 Liberty University H.J McCloskey wrote an article entitled “On Being an Atheist” which dealt with the atheist approach to the cosmological and teleological approaches and the problem of evil. He calls his view of the arguments proofs, as he feels that the arguments offer no proof for the existence of God. He believes that atheism is a more comfortable way to believe than that of theism and that those who believe in theism should be upset just because they believe in God. I believe that McCloskey has a fallacy in his arguments and that the existence of God can not be proven through any one argument, and that all we can do is defend our beliefs within the realm of our own understanding. McCloskey is reminding atheists the ways theists argue for their belief in God.
The reasons for this discomfort are varied. Generally speaking, though, there are a great many misconceptions concerning Jehovah’s Witnesses and those misconceptions create a great divide between them (Jehovah’s Witnesses) and the rest of the population. The misconceptions that cause the most controversy are the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses on celebrations such as: Christmas, Easter and Halloween, as well as, their views on politics and medicine. First of all, consider their views on celebrations. Generally speaking they avoid celebrations that are not well-founded in the Bible.
Secondly, a postmodern world has no objective truth or knowledge because it argues that the world is so unstable because every individual attaches different meanings to different things and so society fails to exist and so progress cannot be made. Because many religions claim objective truth a postmodernist would argue that it is wrong as there is no objective truth. Therefore they would suggest that
These are the questions I hope to answer. I could simply answer these questions by saying that some people are just ignorant. But I believe that nearly all Christians who dislike gays believe that they have a very strong basis for feeling the way they do. One of the first reasons that these people will give is that the Bible says homosexuality is a sin. The Bible gets the blame for a lot of things but especially for outright rejection of homosexuals.
Among these two, the perceived general philosophy towards homosexuality is mostly unenthusiastic. Because religion has a huge effect on the norms of a society, individuals’ perception is shifted to reflect the beliefs that are taught. This can be interpreted in the Bible and the Qur’an as dispiriting to the LGBT community. Some main topics that are prohibited would include same-sex marriages, same-sex acts, and the overall
To start off with, before anyone can pick a side they need background information. Unfortunately, with many of the debates today, in previous years people are uneducated about the topic in which they are arguing. Most people that strongly disagree with the theory of evolution are very closed minded and are not willing to accept or listen to any ideas that do not support their own. All of these people chooses to believe and accept their religion and god. Many of these people think that evolution disproves their religion and throws away their god and this is not true.
Commonly, atheists hold the view that organized religions are corrupt and actually cause more harm than good. Contempt for organized religion is not, however, grounds for calling oneself an atheist. An atheist is someone who has considered all sides of the argument and come to the conclusion that God does not exist, not due to opinions on organized religion, but on the actual facts and arguments of the discussion.
